I'm new to quake mods and I'm getting trouble figuring out the best way to load different mission pack and/or mods.
If I use the "browse mods" option that darkplaces has, the mission packs load and the demo is played, I can play singleplayer but there is no music. If I create a shortcut to darkplaces with "<path_to_darkplaces>" -hipnotic or -rogue, the same happens.
If I use the "change directory" option in directq, the mission packs load fine with music but no demo is played. If I use a shortcut like I described above to launch directq with the mission packs, then everything works fine, the demo is played and music works too.
All I want is to launch the mission packs with the demo AND music, in both darkplaces and directq (I use directq for vanilla looks and darkplaces for enhanced looks). What am I doing wrong?
Some tutorials say that the ogg music files should be placed in <mod_folder>/music, others say that it should be at <mod_folder>/sound/cdtracks, I tried both ways, music still doesn't work on darkplaces...
Any help is appreciated.

1000% sure? That's a lot of sure! Like ten times sure xD Since you were so sure I tried to figure out what was wrong and I finally found out that my pk3 music file for SoA wasn't complete and that's why it wasn't working. But I couldn't get these files to work with directq, is that normal? Is there a way to make them work on directq?

yeah you just put each pk3 in the folders of the mission-packs.
did you check if you perhaps accidentially muted the music in the mission-packs?
cuz im 1000% sure those pk3s work, i and a lot of other people use them and they work fine
how are you starting the mission-packs?
make sure to start them this way, run darkplaces with parameters like this:
MP1: darkplaces.exe -hipnotic
MP2: darkplaces.exe -rogue

Thanks for the help everybody.
Seven, I absolutely don't mean to go against what the author of directq is saying but I tried it and if the music files aren't in id1/music it just doesn't play music... The author's post you mentioned seems to be a bit old, maybe it no longer works that way?... I'm not crazy, it really doesn't work unless the files are in id1/music! Anyway, thanks for the demo file but the music doesn't work not only in the demo but also in-game, while with directq it does work...
talisa, I already have those files, they work with darkplaces for the regular quake but not for any of the mission packs... I'm supposed to just put them in the mods directory right? That's what I did and still they don't work with the mission packs. As for directq, I can't get any of those files to work.
This is really frustrating me :S

Hello leech88,
DarkPlaces (I do not know if DirectQ too) does not play music in the first HIPNOTIC demo.
The issue is related to the demo file.
Please use the fixed demo file for Hipnoticīs 1st demo (attached below).
Drop the file hipdemo1.dem into your HIPNOTIC folder.
Be also aware that DirectQ is absolutely not sensible about music files.
It is DarkPlaces that needs explicit format and subfolder naming.
DrirectQ plays as good as every format and accepts as good as any subfolder structure.
Read, what MH himself is saying about his engine here.

check this thread leech:
http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-mod...sic-packs.html
just download those PK3s, and drop each of them in the folders of standard quake and the mission-packs:
quake music pk3 goes in ID1
MP1 music pk3 goes in HIPNOTIC
MP2 music pk3 goes in ROGUELast edited by talisa; 05-03-2013, 08:31 AM.

It's probably been outmoded now but just in case it helps:
Whenever I used to play mods like Painkeep and Deathmatch plus using proquake, I would first create a separate folder in my quake directory called Painkeep (for example) and then drop the mod files in to it. Then make a copy of my quake startup batch file and add the -game painkeep. and whatever other parameters the mod or map needed, in to the command line within the new batch file.
Darkplaces may be different, and I did hear some talk of using a "gamefolder" command but the above usually worked for me giving me custom sounds, maps, etc from within the mod.
Hope this helps
Monty
