A lot of work is put into making Quake more modern. How about making Quake more retro? It would be interesting to see quake rebuilt in the Doom 2 engine. 2D Ogres and Shamblers! A room full of 20+ grunts! (which was one of the perks of Doom over Quake: the massive hoards of enemies the game could throw at you) Porno MIDI blasting from the speakers! Quad damage powerups for the Quad damage powerups to take on 20 Shamblers at once!
Or perhaps we could go back even farther? An 8 bit quake forged in the spirit of games like Contra and Bionic Commando.
I remember playing a test mod a few yrs back. Quake redone as a side scroller. Anyone remember it or whereabouts it could be downloaded today?
I don't know a thing about Doom editing, but if anyone wants to partake on a mod like this, I would contribute with Photoshop as much as I could (I'm guessing the animations would be like flat, 2D GiFS?) If I didn't know how, we could definentely figure it out together! I could even score the soundtrack.

Thank you for uploading this R00k.Originally posted by R00k View Posti think i have the unzipped ArcadeQuake folder installed on my other HD, (hope i didnt modify anything)...
I tried to clean all my data created when i played, hopefully everything is 99% what they originally zipped.
the dev folder is pretty much untouched.
unofficial arcadequake 45Mb.
I cant play it anyway. With the dp client which is included I cant move.
I reconfigured my keys but it doesnt seem to work. With a newer (2013) client I cant even start this mod.
Any Ideas?

How much more retro can you get with vanilla Quake 1?
...and it's loooooooooong. So far, no one has ever finished it. The programming is pretty impressive though. It's like it understands anything you type, regardless of complexity.Last edited by MadGypsy; 07-19-2013, 06:18 PM.

i tried some different clients, and all of them ran the mod even worse.
all other clients i tried seemed to have a weird problem with the mod
where you couldnt move and pressing jump just made you move upwards endlessly
but i found one exception to this: Qrack seems to run the mod perfectly
so try downloading qrack and run the mod in that
.
anyways... now im off, to hook up my gamepad and go play some sidescroller quake

My last try was a 2013 build.
I have some troubles with the controlling, but it works somehow.
I think this must be fixes somehow. This mod is funny....
