  • How to use conversions and various mods with Darkplaces?

    Hello,

    I want to play Malice, Shrak for Quake and X-Men: The Ravages Of Apocalypse, but I don't know how to start them with the Darkplaces Engine.

    Btw, are there more mod packs resp. conversions like Nehara Project, Zerstörer etc.?

    Run them like you would any other engine.

      you use mods with darkplaces the same way as how you'd do with normal quake:
      by starting darkplaces with the parameter -game modfolder

      you can find any mods and maps over at quaddicted: https://www.quaddicted.com/reviews/

      both play just fine in darkplaces. however dont try and run them with HD monster models,
      especially nehahra which includes modified models which include additional animations.
      HD models dont include those additional animations and thus the models will appear to be frozen when the engine tries to display the missing animations

        Ah yeah thanks. I remebered something like -game malice, but was no rellay sure. I used -game -malice and thats why I can't run it.
        Now I can play my favorite conversion.

            Hmmm... Malice is not working well with the Darkplace Engine.
            I have the problem that in the map Area 44 are the small crate and the parachute (or a hover board) is missing and when I also activate the elevator in the basement, then I get an overflow of error messages.

              Psy-Kai-Q, you can read in several threads about the gameplay issues of darkplaces.
              Malice is affected just the same way as many other mods. Also zerstorer is not fully playable with dp. Even vanilla Quake and mission packs.

              It has an arsenal of internal bugfixes in its trunk though. They try to fix the majority of those bugs. But now that these bugfixes have been disabled by default in recent dp builds, a lot of those bugs will show up in your quake again.

              What you want to do is to enable the required internal bugfixes.
              Add this line into your malice/autoexec.cfg to get your chute and small boxes back:
              "sv_gameplayfix_droptofloorstartsolid" "1"
              Both models stick inside walls upon spawning and therefore drop out of the map when map starts.

              The third error message is already saying why it appears and where it comes from itself.

                  no darkplaces does not support hexen II

                  fteQW however does, and it also supports HD models, RTlights, replacement textures and shaders like darkplaces.

                  inkubo has made HD-textures and lit-files for hexen2, which you can get here:

                    Thank you, I will check it out.
                    Btw, I need some good alternatives for Darkplaces, cause some mods are not really good working with it, like Shrak for Quake.
                    I can start it, but the there are no textures. All is white and some user mods have the same problems.
