Hello!
First time poster here but I am blown away by the amount of support Quake receives! I just started mapping and am having a blast learning things as I go but I am having issues with subtracting/carving/hollowing brushes. I did try searching here and on the func_forums but it's a little tough maneuvering around the threads over there.
From my readings, I think the native ability is not in Trenchbroom but if that is the case what is the process to go about subtracting a brush? Is that where the clipping tool excels?
For instance, if I could get the process of creating a hole in the floor I would greatly appreciate it! With this know-how I can easily create hallways, pits of lava, and just more elaborate constructions in general!
Thank you for your time.

A safe version of CSG subtract seems to be coming in TrenchBroom 2:

The results in that image look a lot better than the problematic kind of CSG subtraction we are used to going back into the old WorldCraft days.

Thank you MadGypsy, I will definitely keep that in mind! Already I have recesses for my buttons and pits for my water brushes!

keep this in mind when clipping angles http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-hel...tml#post139463Last edited by MadGypsy; 12-18-2015, 09:34 PM.

I figured there was a reason it was a native option haha.
Okay, so I have been trying to use the clip tool with the three points as opposed to the two points. Two points indeed splits brush faces in two which is close enough to what I was originally looking for!
Thanks for the quick reply, I may pop back in here soon enough!

csg subtraction is numerically unsafe. it results in crappy maps and leaks and OMGHOWMANYFRAGMENTSDIDTHATOPERATIONJUSTGENERATE.
quake's brushes are just shapes. if you want a hole, create a few more brushes around said hole, then build some walls beyond your opening.
the clip tool allows you to slice a brush in two. make 4 cuts around your opening then delete the brush that remains in the middle, and you should have those 'few more brushes' that I mentioned. or you can just build/resize them all by hand.
