Why are all the mod threads Closed?

I haven't been here in awhile so please forgive my ignorance.

Which sub am I supposed to request old things with broken links in, since I can no longer post in the relevant thread?

Can I have one of my own threads unclosed, and if so who do I ask?

I would tend to have to agree that locking them doesn't serve much purpose, people tend to come and go for long periods of time. If people come rediscover quake and want to try the nice mods made by a lot of people, it's likely they can no longer ask about them or find working links. This is only my opinion.

Sounds more like a fact, to me. Locking a thread does nothing but lock it. There is no logical reason to have an auto-lock. People may claim it's so old threads don't get perpetuated into infinity ~ assuming that all threads have a shelf-life and there should be no reason to rehash old conversations. If this was true and the site was properly moderated, chat-o-rama and venting area should be the only sections where auto-lock is applied. EVERY other section should be assumed to hold information that is relevant for infinity. Auto-lock is basically a lazy-bones way of having the site moderate itself. Imagine that. Imagine if my front door decided I've been in the yard too long and locked me out of my house. This is no different. My front door shouldn't be making decisions, especially ones based entirely on time.

Conversely, chat-o-rama and venting area probably shouldn't have a year shelf-life before a lock. It's a year from the last post! So, I can wait 364 days and literally rehash the very conversation that auto-lock is designed (poorly) to prevent (I actually did this once...lol). The system is bullocks inside and out. Baker has started using a good idea. When Vent-area threads have run their course they disappear into the memory hole. That's a good start. I'm not sure C-o-Rama should disappear but, a year is far too long. 2 months might even be a bit long.

i agree. the policy here atm seems to give you two choices.

1.let inactivity lock the thread
2. keep bumping it to keep it alive.

If you had posted links to the threads in question I could have unlocked them right now, and we could possibly try extending it to two years or killing the the autolock all together.

Yeah there should definitely be something where threads of a relevant and informative nature never close. Like my Become A Quake Modder thread. I saw people on that thread just a few days ago. I may have outgrown what I was doing there but, if someone were to post a question I would still to this day answer it.

some rules regarding inactive threads were changed. worst part is, as you have noticed, they cant be edited. contacting solecord should get you fixed up.
