    Quake 1 Physical CD Question

Question for anyone who physically owns the Quake 1 CD for Registered Quake and also did not buy it from ID Software: Are the file and directory structures the same as the one below?

    https://www.quaddicted.com/library/q...stered_1.01_id

I'm merely curious if physical CDs of Registered Quake (not-Shareware) bought from re-sellers will have the same files as the link above.

One other question regarding this topic:

Is there a way to tell if the CD a seller is selling is the Registered or Shareware version? Can one tell by the box or jewel case art?

    aye, shareware.

glquake came later, so there was no need for gl vs sw rendering at the time.

READINTR.TXT has the same contents as the readme file in the linked version (including the header: "Welcome to the REGISTERED VERSION 1.01 of Quake!").

Mine came in a jewel case that looks like this:

rather than the cardboard construction on the linked page.

I bought my copy from WHSmith (a UK highstreet retailer) some time in the mid-90s. Printed on the CD is "Distributed by GT Interactive Software Corp".
Out of curiosity, what does SW mean, by the way? Software or Shareware?

I don't have my CD handy right now to check the whole file layout, but it has a RESOURCE.1 file on it (lha-format archive) which contains the pak files and other stuff.

There isn't an reseller version of Quake registered, only different retailers. The disc contents is similar but not identical as the /IDSTUFF directory had randomized keys to unlock things. This goes for ID version as well as the various different retailer versions.

There is mostly 1.01 discs, plus 1.06 and 1.08. There is very very very rare 1.00 disc that not many got... and I wish I had one myself.
