I had to take a break from playing quake for a few months, and now that I wanted to get back into it winquake simply stops working immediately after launching, even though I have not modified the file configuration at all since I last played it. I downloaded all the files again to see if they somehow got corrupted, I tried using command line parameters to rule out common compatibility issues, started as admin and in win95/XP mode, all to no avail.

Is it just dead since the last win10 update?
Found the culprit, had to do with windows but in a different way. If anyone else is having similar problems running winquake, check if you've messed with the Data Execution Prevention and then forgot about it like I did.
