Ok, I need some help installing Quake. I am using a Mac and I have no idea how to run this game, although I know it is possible.
I need to know what I'll need to get this game running, and a step by step walk-through of how to do everything I need. I tried using the dojo download but I have no clue how to get it to work.
If you are able to help me, start the walkthrough from the beginning. I can just delete the stuff I have and start again.

There isn't an install... BUT THERE IS AN APP!Originally posted by Baker View PostThere is no Quake install for OS X. OS X didn't exist until 2001! And OS X isn't compatible with OS 9, the 1990s Mac operating system.

FreeQuake: Install and Play Quake in 5 minutes!
More specifically:
http://www.quakeone.com/q1files/down...106SW_DATA.sit
But you still need the pak files, or you could just stick to the demo and that one server that plays demo maps...
/me wonders whether it's legal to pirate something you own...
I guess it's a moral question.

Aye, there's the rub. The only way is to grab the PAK files off another version and then use a source port.

Windows and Linux versions are also available, but might be more difficult to find. Your best option is to wait until someone who knows the steps for OSX to come along and guide you through it, really.

You said that I have the DOS version of the game. What other versions are there and how might I get one? I'm kind of hoping for something a bit easier since I am not at all computer savvy.

Sounds like you have a DOS version of the game. If so you'll need to download DOSBox from here: DOSBox, an x86 emulator with DOS, install it to a temp location using that, then copy out the PAK files to your permanent install location. I'd also advise burning the PAK files to CD so that you don't have to do it again.
I have zero experience of or knowledge of OSX so I can't provide any help or instructions on how to go about using DOSBox on a Mac.

I already asked this question in another thread but can someone help me install the retail version of Quake on my Mac running OSX? I'm not finding pak1.pak or ID1 in any of the folders with the retail version.

It shouldn't matter if hes using a mac client from quakeone.com. He can buy any version anywhere and just use the pak files.

but why stop there?? quake can bring infinitely more fun once you got the registered version! not only will you be able to play the full game in single player mode, but you can also get on the servers and play online! (that's where the real fun startsOriginally posted by DoomsI think I managed to satisfy my nostalgia for this game.
)
you can buy quake on steam too btw.

Thanks for the help on this by the way. The Share version works well enough, I think I managed to satisfy my nostalgia for this game.

Not legally. You could Google for the file, but you'd be on your own with that.Originally posted by Dooms View PostAnyway, with that working, is there a free way to get the full version working with it?
Shareware alone, not really. The xCTF server that you can connect to by typing "connect xctf.clan-rum.org" in the console is the only server that runs the shareware maps. Will you Zip files allow for me to play on Multiplayer?

It works! Lol, I missed the "play" icon. I feel like a complete dumbass.
