    Quake Dir - Base Files

Hi guys. I recently got a new computer with my first SSD (which is super nice btw, I highly recommend them).

So seeing as how space is limited, I'm trimming down everything that I want on the SSD, including Quake. My Quake DIR is centuries old and is large and bloated. Therefore I would like to only have the base files + my client.

Does anyone know where I could find a list of the base files? Or maybe someone randomly knows them offhand? lol

    Thanks for reading!

(EDIT: I'm looking for the names of the base files, not the actual files, of course. I'll be deleting the extra files myself once I narrow down the needed ones.)

Bingo! MH wins the basecamp award

As for the startup lots of pepes having that issue with SSD,see here

Also If you have more than 1 drive in the system the bios will read at the slowest device speed regardless how fast it may be.

Maybe your new computer needs a newer Quake engine. Engine X comes to mind.

Thanks everyone, I now have a sparkling clean Quake dir !

Rather than start a new thread, I'll see if anyone could answer another question here:

Well, the problem is that my Quake takes too long to start, whether it's on my HDD or SSD. I run the executable, it shows that little "Starting Quake" splash box, and the screen goes black, all as usual. But the screen stays black for roughly 8 to 10 seconds before finally showing Quake. It's rather annoying, especially on my NEW computer

I haven't changed anything from when my Quake was on my old computer and it started just fine, so I'm guessing that some kind of function is timing out on start (or something related to that).

Here is my console after starting:

Nothing real eye popping there but I'm not sure what to do. If anyone knows anything about this, that'd be great if you could help me out. Thanks!

    Hello Mindz,

you anger on DarkPlaces is really worrying me...
Now that you even see the official mission packs as DarkPlaces files.

I wonder what makes you hate DP so much.
Is it, because it is not a good multiplayer engine ?
This forum is full of detailed installation instructions for DP.
If you have specific questions, you know that you will get specific answers anytime.

I wish that one day you can write someting positive about DP...
I of course know that DP is NOT perfect (just like any other engine).

    All the Best,
    Seven

And inside the ID1 folder is only pak0.pak and pak1.pak. Thats the clean folder after applying patch 1.06.

Just copy entire Id1, unless you want to re-setup 3wave CTF,Custom 3wavemaps, CAx Custom Maps, RA/CAx Sounds, Locs for ID1 maps, Locs for 3wave maps etc, which will be tedious and annoying

ESPECIALLY if you don't have a archival folder from your pevious downloads/installs for everything quake related.

no, hipnotic and rogue arent darkplaces dependant folders.
they're the folders from the mission packs

basically all you need to run the game is the ID1, HIPNOTIC and ROGUE folders plus the .pak files inside those folders, plus the client files inside the install folder.

those are the only files needed to be able to run quake

Trimming quake is risky buisness your best bet is to copy the vital items like entire id1 folder for starters just as example.

set it off to the side. Delete quake folder, RE-install fresh. Drop Id1 back, re-install whatever clients your require ~ your quake folder is thinned w/o loss of vitals. Id1 has Locs,Maps, and gobs of other shite you want to keep.

make sure after re-installing quake that you delete opengl32.dll as its a pos and breaks everything. not to mention its 2012 and noone has 3dfx :F

Also, since you have a New PC, another suggestion is start a "Quake Archive" folder, where everything that you download for Quake is sorted and availible offline. I have 10.5GB of pure Quake media, only installers and archives.
