It's been a long time playing Quake. I've used Darkplaces before and a long time ago, had packed all my quake mods with darkplaces dated 20060705. I've gotten back into it and now trying to pack my mods with the newest darkplaces20110628 to take advantage of new stuff.
So I'm building the darkpalces folder and putting the proper games in their folders. So far, quake, SoA and DoE all work fine except Malice. They are all in their proper folders with their music PK3 files. I downloaded higher quality packs for Quake, SoA and DoE and built a new PK3 for Malice.
I have two problems starting Malice that my old 2006 pack doesn't:
-On loading and it starts to run the demo, it Pauses and says 'Damage paused the game'
-The music is overlapping with the original Quake music. The second level of Malice actually plays the intro/demo music from Quake.
It does not matter if I use the oggs in \malice\sound\cdtracks\*.oggs or the mp3's in \malice\music\wavs and it doesn't matter if I use the PK3 or sound files for quake and malice, quake music always overrides. The only way to get the Malice music to work is to rename the PK3 music file under quake. And if I rename either just the quake music PK3 or both quake and malice, the malice intro/demo still 'pauses'. Again, this is flawless on the 2006 darkplaces.
Any help? I haven't been able to find anything.

Sorry for offtopic, but I would like to take the chance that LordHavoc is reading this.
I noticed that some things have gone "wrong" since middle of september 2011 build:
- particle effect system has been changed (example: rocket trails leave extremely little particles when using custom effectinfo.txt. Before it worked as it should.)
- collected end-of-episode runes are not displayed in HUD anymore
These are some things that prevent me from using newer DP builds.
Could you maybe look into these LH ?
Thank you very much.

Fixed this also, it's a bug that has been there for ages but was hidden by r_coronas being non-zero by default, I fixed it yesterday but did not realize I should upload another beta the same day.

The beta build works fine for me but I do not have any add-ons yet. I guess the problem is the running of the demo script in malice. In the beta, you see the 'Damage paused the game' but then after two seconds or so, you see 'God mode ON' and then 'unpaused' and it continues. In the stable build, the script continues after hitting ESC to pull up the menu.
So basically, the script itself is freezing in the stable build. Would this effect other scripts in this or other mods? Good question. Might be the script's fault. Maybe you would have to play more of Malice to see.
After the 1st training level, there is a script/intro movie that runs and it works fine in both stable and beta.

... and a quick off topic...
If running the malice loads the .pk3 file from ID1, does that mean other pk3 files like the rtlights, get applied to all the other games/mods?

You're good! (imagine Robert De Nero saying that to you waging his index finger) That was it and I fixed the other music paks I downloaded which happen to be from here: http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-mod...sic-packs.html I already had the music, just not as high of a quality.Originally posted by LordHavoc View PostPerhaps the naming of the ogg files is track002.ogg on one of the packs and track02.ogg on the other? I believe track002.ogg overrides track02.ogg regardless of search order, much like a .tga texture in id1 will override a .png or .jpg texture in a mod, the Twilight quake engine fixed this with a really costly search system but I haven't gone as far in addressing the issue.

I wasn't expecting that but thanks....but link is invalid but I'm not mad cause I love the 404 message...
That's awesome! Where's that from? And you're making me feel old cause I remember games like that... some game about pirates on my TI-99/4a that loaded from a cassette tape?> look
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

You stumble around trying to find http://icculus.org/twilight/darkplac...20721beta1.zip, but your hands grasp nothing except dirt and rock. You eventually touch something solid, and lift it up. As you bring it to your eyes, you squint to find that it is a silver ray gun of death.

Your score is 25 out of a possible 375. This gives you the rank of hoser.
Are you sure you want to give up [y/N]? : y
Thanks again!

Hello GiSWiG,
Same error here with me (20110822 build):
I also get the 'Damage paused the game' error when the demo starts.
Workaround to bypass the demo error is to start the game with a shortcut to "darkplaces.exe" with the extension:
Malice´s start map is called "start.bsp", so this will skip the demo but the rest will stay the same.darkplaces.exe -game malice -malice +map start
