  • MP1 scourge of armagon mjolnir hotkey and mousewheel

    Hi,

I recently bought Quake and the mission packs on steam. I play MP1 with the normal executable, not glquake.

I can't seem to find this anywhere: what is the hotkey for the mjolnir lightning hammer? Is it possible to change weapons hotkeys?

Also, I can't bind my mousewheel to anything. I'd like to use it to switch weapons. Is this possible?

    The right console command is

    bind 0 "impulse 226"

    with quotation marks!

Sorry for the necro, but I registered just because this applies to me. For whatever reason, I cannot switch to Mjolnir, even after just picking it up. How do you bind impulse commands? I tried everything, but nothing would work. For example:
    bind 0 +impulse 226 (also without the +)
would just say bind <key> [command] : attach a key to a command
And does anyone know why this happens? I have no trouble selecting all the other new weapons in the expansion. Thanks in advance.

    Hello Splitterface,

Slowly. Be gentle what you are saying...
The mousewheel exists longer than you think.

Original Quake 1.01 release supported MWHEELDOWN (impulse 10).
The update 1.06 supported both: MWHEELDOWN + MWHEELUP
So, 1.06 introduced MWHEELUP and with it impulse 12.
Since then you can use your mousewheel.

Some mods that have been build on V1.01 does not support impulse 12.

Engines handle this differently as well.
Some engines bring that feature with itself:
Even though your Quake is only V1.01, you will be able to use impulse 12.

    Back to Hhhnnggrascal´s issue:
Mission pack 1 has impulse 12 support since its beginning.
There have been people reporting similar issue here, and the root-cause was, that they were using autoexec´s without knowing it, which permanently override bindings.

Best thing to test this is:
Bind the MWHEELUP to impulse 12 via console.
This will show you at once if it works.
If that works, and after restarting your game it does not work again, you will most probably have a sniffer somewhere.

    But as you said yourself:
(...sometimes the colors turn to all greens and blues, which I can fix by reloading my last save) but I don't find it that annoying.
So that tiny mousewheel-issue should not bother you too much as well.

    Good luck,
    Seven

Seven is right, I meant mission pack 1.

Binding 0 to impulse 226 worked for me. My mousewheel still doesn't work but it's not the end of the world. I guess the old executable doesn't recognize it for some reason.

I'm running on Windows 7. There are some graphics issues (e.g. sometimes the colors turn to all greens and blues, which I can fix by reloading my last save) but I don't find it that annoying. It would be nice to run with some mods for better graphics but it seems like it's more trouble than it's worth.
winquake.exe doesn't work w/ win 7. however i know it works with windows xp. go figure :/

of course the original executable doesnt recognise the mousewheel. it was made in '96, there was no such thing as a mousewheel back then, so the executable has no clue what a mousewheel is

Mjolnir's hammer never made it into final Quake1, so that Hammer you seen on that PC-GAMER or whatever magazine totally fn lied to us way back in the day.
    Hello Mindf!3ldzX,

I think "MP" is a shortcut for several things.
In this case it is not "multiplayer".
I think he meant "mission pack".
The word "mjolnir lightning hammer" is implementing this idea.

It is a weapon, that comes with the mission pack 1.

If you want to change keys, the first way to go is the in-game option menu.
If you cannot find your desired key in one of the menus, you have to go directly into your "config.cfg".
Find your config.cfg inside your "hipnotic" subfolder, that stores the mission pack 1 settings.

These are the bindings, that you was asking for (you are free to change them):

    1.) mjolnir
impulse 226 (default is binded to "0")
    2.) mouse wheel up
MWHEELUP (if you want to switch weapons, bind it to: impulse 12)
    3.) mouse wheel down
MWHEELDOWN (if you want to switch weapons, bind it to: impulse 10)

Have fun playing this great mission pack,
    Seven

first of all... dont, absolutely DO NOT play quake with the original excecutable in a modern O/S

it will cause some huge problems, and theres lots of sourceport engine which allows you to run quake in modern O/s and add widescreen support and such.

id recommend trying either darkplaces or fteqw. darkplaces if you like fancy looks, and fteqw if you'd like to have the retro look
