  • Burrow is Compromised

Greetings all and HappyBunny New Year to you all.

I am not a programming guru, and am inept at changing command paths, et al.

Before creating this post as I am having problems due to switching my OS to Windows 7 X 64bit, I have read forums and suggestions, tried downloading new Quake Clients and nothing works.

I am able to run quake in the "hurt my eyes due to bad graphics" mode and log onto the servers. I use to use GLQrack when on XP. (Missing dll files) I have tried Dark Places and a couple of the other downloads.

    I run an Nvidia card.

I have tried many of the suggestions on the forum, but self help is not working.

If someone can point out to this DumbBunny, what I am overlooking, or a thread, or even can help me remotely, I would be eternally in your debt.

Be well, and have a great 2013. Thanks.

Hello there Bunny! This won't be much help, but I had similar issues trying to get modern Quake running on Win 7 x64. I eventually gave up (the computer was my work computer lol so I didn't really need to get it working).

install some working graphics drivers. windows does not automagically install any from windows update. You'll need to download drivers straight from nvidia's site if you've not done so already.

Personally I use 64bit win7+nvidia without any issues with FTE+DP.
That said, there are a couple of (non-vanilla) engines that have 'minor' stack corruption bugs that only exhibit issues in win7.
Software-rendered engines may also have bugs due to not requesting execute rights on self-modifying code - you can disable DEP for these engines and they should work okay.

FTE, DirectQ, and DarkPlaces 'should' all work... But then so should the other engines too, so meh.

OK, updated Nvidia drivers and rebooted. No change.

Dark Places error message: Add -basedir/path/to/game to launch command line

            DirectQ error message: Xinput1_3.dll missing

DX8pro493 error message: Is GL Pro exe in proper folder?

            Thoughts, suggestions or insults welcomed......

DP and 'GL' Pro both report a similar error.

              You should have something like:
              c:\oogaboogawhateveryouwant\quake\
              c:\oogaboogawhateveryouwant\quake\whateverbinaryhe re.exe
              c:\oogaboogawhateveryouwant\quake\id1\pak0.pak
              c:\oogaboogawhateveryouwant\quake\id1\pak1.pak

If you don't adhere to that directory structure/layout/arrangement/monkey, then the various engines will have no idea where to load the data from, and will complain at you about it or something.
Yes, quake engines expect you to actually have quake's data files installed.
FTE will bring up a prompt window, expecting you to show it where you put the data files.

Regarding the directq error, should be fixable by googling for 'DirectX End-User Runtime' and downloading a file from the first hit. I'd give you a direct link, but I've no idea what differences the language localisation junk actually does.

Well ... there is your problem. In fact, I bet the full text of that entire message is rather incredibly explicit

Your Quake folder might be "c:\somewhere"
In "c:\somewhere:" you need 2 things:
                A) dxpro493.exe
                B) id1 folder, which contains pak0.pak and pak1.pak

That's all you need to do, which is simple.

I understand you aren't familiar with paths and folders, nevertheless, only you can do this.

Since your wqpro works, find where that is and put dx8pro in that folder!

Wow, Baker... much more than a pretty face. Put dxpro493 into C:/Quake and it works. Thank you very much brother. Graphics do not hurt my eyes any more.

Got my binds set, now how do I show my console in this mod? Cannot see the weapons or HP.

Thank you one and all, and glad to be back.

viewsize 100? FOV 90? What did you do, haha.

I'm glad to see you got it working.

+ or - signs control volume.

Was able to change screen size down in options. Thank you.

                        Next couple of questions....

Have brightness ratcheted up but have lost most detail in dark areas like pent room in E1M7. Any suggestions?

Also wondering how to get my weapons to automatically go to most powerful one when I pick it up. (Not including RL or GL)

                        Thanks!

ProQuake has a "contrast" command you can use in the console. Normal value = 1, changing from values from 0.7 to 1.4 might give you this detail you seek.
