    Changing screen resolution

There have been one or two threads about this here but neither have solved my problem. I am currently trying to play Q1 vanilla at 1920 x 1080. I've tried creating a batch file... changing the launch options in Steam, but nothing. What could I be doing wrong?

'as is' its virtually unplayable on modern OS, it cuases huge problems in most modern os, so i really recommend you use a sourceport to play quake

the steam download is the exact same executable as in '96, and its not made to be run in any modern OS, ID didnt change anything to it to fix bugs or such or make it work without problems in modern OS

so id really recommend using a sourceport to play quake, cuz trying to run the original executable will cause problems

also, trying to use the original executable is a lot of unnecesary fuzzing around, you'll be trying to make it do stuff that any modern sourceport of quake can do without fuzzing around.

its like trying to run win95 on a new computer. its old and requires a lot of fuzzing to get things to work, while you could just install win7 and wont have to do any fuzzing around at all cuz everything that requires a lot of work to get to work in win95 is natively supported in win7

OK, thanks but I don't want to add a more modern engine, I just want to play as is.

Steam does allow batch files, worked fine with Wolfenstein.

By "vanilla" do you mean software rendered (pixels)?

    yes, I do.

I've tried creating a batch file with -width 1920 -height 1080 but it just launched in a lower default res.

also I tried entering the above dimensions into the steam launch options but that didn't work either.

A little work upfront, but freeing in the end, maybe?

Then find a new engine to drop in, resolution will simply be a menu selection!

Sorry, I can't help with the Steam part.
