  • r0t.co.uk servers

Ok so I have set up two servers - one DM and one Coop. Info here:

    Quake @ www.r0t.uk

(The URL will be changing to r0t.uk as soon as the domain register fix the nameserver issues I'm having with that.)

Quite a large collection of maps but DP doesn't seem (as far as I can tell) to have any way of making a map cycle etc.

Are there any mapvote mods that will work with DP? I haven't found anything yet.

    -r0t.uk- DM - Mapvote - r0t.uk:26000

    Hi Slackhead,

First, well done on putting a server up.
With regard to a Map rotation friendly mod, you might take a look at Runequake in permanent FFA mode (i.e. with all the runes turned off), or CRMOD. If you want to check out a working example you might try connecting to the Damage server in the UK (damage.servequake.com) but given the sheer number of maps available in the rotation you might want to make sure your map autodownload is configured correctly (assuming darkplaces can do this like other Quake engines) before you start as it might make things easier for you

    Hope this helps

Unfortunately DP cannot do the auto download map feature, but you can get almost any map you need from quakeone.com. Several of the current servers on the front page have links to download map packs for them. Otherwise you can get a pretty complete list here.

Thanks. Will have a look at that. Pity DP doesn't auto-download maps...

Hmm both runes and crmod are crashing the server with:

              Code:
Host_Error: server Progs attempted to read an out of bounds edict number
Quake Error: Host_Error: server Progs attempted to read an out of bounds edict number
              Host_ShutdownServer
Maybe they don't work with DP

              -r0t.uk- cOOp - Mapvote - r0t.uk:26001
              -r0t.uk- DM - Mapvote - r0t.uk:26000

True they don't work with DP.

If you set in your server config.cfg/autoexec.cfg sv_protocolname "QUAKE" instead on "DP7"
then none DP clients can join your servers too + I can add them on the quakeone serverlist.

I'm not sure that I understand. I set that in my dm.cfg and I can join fine and see the servers etc. with my DP client.

                  I've added it anyway.

So there is no mapvote mod for DP?

In your config now it probably say : sv_protocolname DP7
If you replace that with sv_protocolname QUAKE ,then people using other clients besided DP can also join your servers.( ATM they can't ) You have to restart your server or reload the config.

You could run the mod rquake for coop that mod supports map vote.

                          Nice

I will look into RQuake, but I am concerned about DM more than Coop - I have ~ 300 maps but there doesn't seem to be any way for players to play them at the moment :/

Runequake would probably be your best option but It would be rather easy to code into your own progs.dat a simple map system that could support several hundred maps that could be voted on. In fact the code would be extremely easy. Just in case you don't want all the fancy Runequake stuff but you can run the server with all of it turned off anyway. Eh.

EDIT: In fact, I found this little nugget just now on this forum! Baker and Bam at it again! Here!

Something like this would be very easy to modify to your liking to support all of your custom maps.

                              Thanks

I've grabbed the source which compiles fine on my linux box using wine. I need a bit of a primer on quakec, but I have a lot of years experience writing UnrealTournament mods so hopefully it'll fall into place.

                              *Edit:
Just tested and making a voter directory and using -game voter works. I had to enter the map twice to get it to change but that's maybe because it's a majority vote? Anyway I will carry on and see how it works with other players.
