  • Preach's QEXPO modelling tutorials

    Hey guys & gals,

Very nice place you got here . I'm working on my first quake project, but 1st I need to learn how modelling, textures, animations work and preach's tutorial comes highly recommended here.

I'm having some trouble with it, if you guys can help me.

From Day 3 of the tutorial:

    1.
When selecting faces, his selection looks like this:

    Mine looks like this:

    Is there any problem?

    2.
Regarding the UV Editor he shows an image after he moves some vertices,

Mine is before the certain movement I have to do, but no way can it look like that since I have fewer vertices. It is for the same weapon component.

    3.
The same thing for another component
    His image

    Mine

    4.
He can select only the lines(?)

I select the whole triangle (mesh?), I tried double cliking when selecting, sometimes it works, but not for all of them

Also sometimes the selection remains white

    Thank you,

    I can help you.

    1)get blender
    2)learn blender
3)use the blender controls to recreate whatever tutorial you are following. Don't worry so much about every little step of the initial tutorial. In other words, probably completely skip his uv tutorial. In blender, you could just mark a seam and then click cntrl+u to unwrap. Instead of his uv tutorial, go watch a blender one.

There are a bunch more beginner tutorials here.

Dammit, I responded on this thread this morning, or I thought I did...apparently it didn't go through. But yeah, I pretty much said the exact thing gypsy said. He went the extra mile and provided links.

If you're trying to model anything for everything, and you're not using blender, you're doing yourself a HUGE dis-service. If you can't get It done on blender, chances are It ain't worth doing. It has an attractive price tag too: free

Take a couple weeks to learn blender and you'll never look back...your productivity will increase exponentially.

@ - preach's tutorial comes highly recommended here.

If you think about it, this is ironic since you can't get a bunch of it to work. Generally people recommend stuff that provided them with guidance/information that resulted in a successful outcome.
