I'm introducing "Small Mod Compilation ver. 4.25" alternative version without spider, new dog extended, zombie axe, new zombie model.

Size: ~41mb.

Sound pick up backpack changed to standart (lock4.wav) for full compability with alternatives sound packs (examples: Mingrid, Epiquake).

Installation:
Simply put the .pk3 file into your ID1 folder.
Please use the included autoexec.cfg sample to customize all features to your personal liking (inside pk3-file).

I strongly recommend this DarkPlaces build 2012-12-22!!!

I don't know, but:
1] source code included (from original SMC Seven)
(and I include source code too)
2] there are no tabu for modding SMC source code (from past to 20.05.2013)
3] include readme file (and this forum) with credits
(example: Seven - main coder for original version SMC)

and I'm speakin again: I'm not main coder, main coder - Seven. I'm deleter.
And this is alternanive version without some features (1'st message).
At last:
I don't like big-long autoexec file, therefore I'm make this alternative version (without some features).

The problem with this isn't that it's just a copy he is sharing, it's that there is a whole thread devoted to it. This should be posted in the SMC "master" thread as just another post. It also isn't an alternate version. When someone touts an alternate version of something like this it should come with stuff the other didn't, not less of what it did. This is SMC (too) Custom Min.

It is akin to if I uploaded a radiant with no game packs included and called it an alternate radiant.

He's providing a service, from open source code, and crediting the original authors.
I dont think the hostility is really necessary.

I understand the frustration that he's not using the on/off switches provided so graciously,
as those took a lot of work, but this thread isnt hurting anybody. Its not defaming anyone,
and somewhere down the road someone may even appreciate the stripped down version.

He is within his rights doing this. The SMC code was released and is either under the id license, or under the GPL, or both.

Seven does not own QuakeC - I assume the SMC was not written from scratch, so the original licenses apply.

Seven does not need to allow people to use QuakeC code because the code was originally written by id Software and licensed by them.

Technically Seven could disallow use of any code he wrote from scratch, but not all of the SMC code was written by Seven. I'm not aware that Seven disallowed the use of his code, he actually even made it public.

There really is no problem. Seven's SMC is still the original and does not go away because of this. If you don't like this version, don't support it.

Uhhh, I don't think it's an issue. More like naivety.

Just to note: I never thought it was an issue or made any conscious attempt to make it seem like one. If anything, it seemed more like pointless for him to post this (to me).

2- he need smc in a small size
3- the smc code is released under GPL
4- he gave the credits to seven and linked to the original thread

I think people who are prejudiced against this version of SCM is really stupid or just do not know the dynamics of open source content
