Yeah, cenobites from Hellraiser definitely have the "repulsive glamour" -(Clive Barker's description of them) that I think the Vore should have as well.
As a sidenote, if you haven't seen Hellraiser and/or haven't read the book it's based on-- "The Hellbound Heart"-- go for it!
It's 80's horror at it's finest.
Well according to the quake maual, its gender is mentioned to be "male".
I read the manual differently, there is no gender implied. "A spideresque hybrid horror. Keep your eye on the firepod he hurls." "He" refers to the horror unless I read it wrong.
I always thought it was female because "vore" is close to "whore" and the screams are high-pitched. Sexism!

@webangel
the websight you gave me has a quote of the very beginning of the information of the vore and it was mostly mention its gender to be an "it".
That is why I never thought it to be female.
I mostly do reasearch before making conclusions.
But it doesen't mean there shoulden't be a female vore. It's an idea that is brought up to make creative additions to Quake.
The problem with normal maps is performance. Just turning normals on in ex DP is an fps crusher. And what if someone doesn't turn normals on? Then what are they going to see?
I'm not an established professional but I've been here long enough to have an idea of what you should consider. Normal maps arent ideal because of performance and the sheer fact that someone might have them turned off (because of performance)
I hate to break this to you my friend, but it's time to pick up your nailgun and take your 3DFX and your S3 Virge out behind the woodshed.
3DFX: "Why are we going back here?"
MG: "You've served me well, now it's time for you to go to a special place"
S3 Virge: "Oh goody! Is it a nice place?"
MG: "(choked back sob) Yeah, it is."
3DFX: "Are all the motherboards ASUS an, an they use real thermaltake paste?"
MG: (Just nods his head, squeezing back tears)
S3 Virge: "I hear that all the graphics cards can be AGP!!"
3DFX: "Goody goody, wow!!!! Are you coming too MadGypsy, are you, are you?"
S3 Virge: "Yes, please come too MadGypsy!"
MG: (visibly struggling with emotion) "You know I can't do that guys. I got the new network cards to break in and those power supplies won't test themselves. Now just close your eyes and you'll see it real soon."
For me there was also never a doubt, that the shalrath is female.
My idea for a mod:
Make her randomly throw out baby-spiders instead of her missile attack.
That would be refreshingly different.
And especially with this model here (which seems to be pregnant)...
You could use the small vorelings from Quoth pack or the spider from SMC.
What about eggs?
Shalrath is using her eggs as projectile and baby vores came out of them...
I know there was a mod doing this.
