To me the default quake nailgun sounds like a snare drum.
i like the musical accent to the quake sound effects it sets a nice beat to the game as you play, the weaponry kinda lay out the bass and the rest comes from the monsters/players and the environment. i don't know how overlooked this aspect of quake is but i personally feel if more games had this i just might play them..might

Do you plan to have a specific skybox ? It would be a good idea
Also, the wall corners with the torches are a nice architectural touch. As well as the wood platform on the top... Lightning desserves however to be polished, maybe adding more strengh to sunlight, and decrease minlight (in the shadow parts).
Anyway, this looks particularly intersting: good job !

Haven't settled on a skybox yet. Since this is a remake of episode 1, I'd like a purple-ish sky reminescent of the original... I haven't found one yet.
Lighting needs work still, yep.
Releasing asap might be a little difficult :-P maybe when RMQ has its next SP demo! ijed's stuff is nice, too!
BTW one of my maps will use that plane model you sent me ;-)
