    rain and fog for MP1 SoA

    hello all,

    seven, roy batty and daniocampo1992 have made great .ent rain and fog files for ID1, and after trying making them myself and seeing how easy it is, i decided to start making rain and fog myself for all MP1 SoA maps

    in this thread i will post any progress i make, every map i finish i will add as im done with it,
    and ill also post if i revise maps to fix leakages or such or if there were parts i wasnt happy with after all

    DONE SO FAR:
    START - command HQ (fixes by seven)

    Episode1:
    HIP1M1 - the pumping station
    HIP1M2 - storage facility
    HIP1M3 - the lost mines v1.1 (added flying ash effect where there's lava)
    HIP1M4 - research facility v1.1 (fixed part before exit-gate which i missed)
    HIP1M5 - military complex v1.11 (v1.1-fixed some missing pieces webangel pointed out and added a missing part. v1.11-fixed another leak)

    EP1 COMPLETE + START v1.02 (updated the pack with HIP1M3 v1.1)
    complete episode1 + the start map, packed as pk3 for easy use, just put it in your hipnotic folder to use


    Episode2:
    HIP2M1 - ancient realms
    HIP2M2 - the black cathedral v1.2 (fixed a typo in the ash which caused ash to spawn where it shouldnt)
    HIP2M3 - the catacombs
    HIP2M4 - the crypt v1.1 (added rain at 2 spots which i overlooked)
    HIP2M5 - mortum's keep
    HIP2M6 - the gremlin's domain

    EPISODE2 COMPLETE v1.02 (updated the pack with the fixed HIP2M4)
    packed as pk3 for easy use, just drop into your hipnotic folder to use


    Episode3:
    HIP3M1 - tur torment
    HIP3M2 - pandemonium
    HIP3M3 - limbo
    HIP3M4 - the gauntlet >no windows or such, so no rain needed for this map
    HIPEND - armagon's lair

    EPISODE3 COMPLETE
    packed as pk3 for easy use, just drop into your hipnotic folder to use it


    some screenshots to show what it looks like in-game. although still pics of course dont compare to how it looks when you see it in-game




    to use any of the .ent files, drop them in hipnotic\maps, and if needed rename to start.ent or hip1m1.ent, hip1m2.ent etc.
    when i got any episodes done, ill put all rain-maps for each episode in a pk3 file for easy use


    feel free to comment, constructive criticism on if you find any leakages or points where i could improve,
    or perhaps even places i forgot (you never know, mightve overseen spots) is more then welcome and very much appreciated


    for anyone who might be eager to try and make some themselves, its actually real easy! try it and see how extremely easy it is

    !please note that you need seven's small mod compilation 3.1 plus the version of his SMC for MP1 installed for the rain to work!
    !if you dont have these installed the rain will not work and cause darkplaces to crash on trying to load up a map!

    made a nice addon for the startmap to episode1 maps, which add the fancy slipgate stars effect i love so much

    made these ent-files some time ago, and thought you all might like them too

    Thanks Splitterface! Excellent stuff! I think I may try and tackle the few maps of Travail that I like (and thankfully work in the latest stable DP anyway to an acceptable level) - qte2m1, qte2m2, qte2m3 and qte2m5.
    I have two of them duped so there is a seemless loop from 1 to 5 (secret map 1 exit) or 1 through 5 skpping 4 and 6 and all the others with all the issues in DP.

    thanx im glad you like the rain-maps i made

    and yes, the bubble-effect indded looks nice, i might look into how to add that to the SoA levels later

    but first, ill add fog options soon, for people who like having fog



    and adding fog is real easy, so when i get to it, ill be able to add fog to all the maps in just a few minutes

    I have tested the remaining ent files and all seems fine. It's good you didn't do anything with HIM3M4 and HIPDM1, rain wouldn't have fit into the secret level, anyway. ^^

    This acid bubble stuff certainly looks interesting. Adding that later might add even more fun to the maps.

    strange about the link to the ep2 pk3 not working
    ive just re-uploaded the file again to mediafire and updated the link in first post, so it should work again now

    just looked at HIP3M4, which needed no rainblocks at all
    and last looked at HIPEND, which could real quickly be done
    so ive also added rain .ent files for the last map!

    which means.... that the last episode is done now too
    and hipnotic is completely done and full of rain now

    so ive also immediately took the time to quickly put together a pk3 with rain for the 3rd episode of SoA


    hmm... whats up next...? i think ill first look at adding more effect-options to all SoA maps, like adding fog for all levels, and look at maybe adding the suggested bubbles rising from acid


    btw everyone, do please still post if you find any leaks or if you findspots which i forgot to add rain to, and ill fix them as soon as i can!
    that is if its fixable, some are sadly unavoidable due to thin platforms and such

    Hello Splitterface,

    I have no idea how the "bubbles in slime" shall look like...
    But I made a quick effect, which is spawned via .ent file for you.
    So that you can see how it works and improve it.

    It is done via a similar entry into the .ent file like the weather blocks.
    You only need an additional entry in the *map*_effectinfo.txt file.
    Read the dpwiki to see how that works and learn the syntax.
    Please find the sample attached below.

    As mentioned above, there are more samples to look at.
    They are included together with a short tutorial in the "small mod compilation V3.5".
    Please look into its zip file.

    ah... is there a tut how to add these kinda effects?
    cuz right now all i know is how to add rain and snow/ash...
    and i have no experience with adding custom-made effects yet,
    so if someone could help me how to add these i might try

    although i will first finish the few remaining maps which still need rain before id add more other effects.
    the main objective which i have is adding rain to all levels, and then once this is done maybe fog and other effects like bubbles in acid and such
