  • Very early "material mod" stage

    well, i return to work in quake after 3 months!! (i am working in a standalone with my friend Bruno) I re-take my incomplete mod "waste" and my incomplete mod "materials" to blend the achieved stuff, but i have many problems, specially with "effectinfo.txt"
    Well, "materials" is a very simple add-on with, i add footsteps and impacts bassed in the textures. I cleaned the code from "waste" and you can test the experiment

    This is a very early stage, you can test it shooting (with shotgung and supershotgun) the different textures in the map "start" and others (e1m1...)... (please shoot the electric stuff and water ) and walking in many places testing the footsteps by textures.
    I need to have differents effects for the different group of similar textures, but i am pretty noob with the "effectinfo.txt"
    Someone can i help me with my mod Waste?
    I also need a modeler (and a mapper maybe )

    Hello Nahuel,

    It is good to see you back.
    Thank you for your early mod release.

    I played it some time and want to give you some feedback:

    First of all I LOVE your broken glass sprite effect !
    Your idea to use Hipnoticīs code for it is very good.

    It is amazing how sounds can improve the ambience.
    Does Moon[Drunk] work together with you on this project ?
    He told me several days ago, that he plans to do the same thing with footstep sounds...

    One thing you should maybe change is the check for 2 velocities.
    In the current condition when you start walking, you hear exactly 1 step, then you have a bigger pause and then you hear the regular footsteps.
    I use always run. Maybe you dont and didnt recognize it yet.
    I use only 1 velocity check in my mod.

      Hello seven, tnahks for the suggestion, i will try to fix it. the footstep code is based on your code, THC and my very old footstep code! I need to fix it. I modified a little the hipnotic bullethole to work properly in darkplaces, and i use models instead of sprites. Aniway i can use the hipnotic holes only for the glass ! you can get very horrible effects in the corners if you use the bulletholes in other textures!! but not in the glass, because these are generally surrounded by different brushes (frames ) that hides this glitch Sadly i am not working with anyone from quakeone.com or quake comunity!!

        You say that you are not working with anyone from quake community on a quake mod ?
        Hmmm, that is weird

        By the way:
        Is your mother language portuguese or spanish ?
        Because here in Germany there is one song playing all the time in the radio.
        The singer always sings: "Nossa ! Nossa !"
        That is all I understand. LOL
        It seems to be a soccer/football song for fans maybe ?
        What does "Nossa" mean ?
        Because even my youngest daughter starts to say "Nossa ! Nossa !" all day

          I am from Argentina, here we speak spanish, aniway i can understand the portuguese and italian very easy (very similar languajes ) the son is brazilian these song is not about soccer!! But many soccer fans here in Argentina change the lyrics of this song to insult opposing teams!!! I donīt like the song but is very popular (I find out that now also heard in Europe!). The song is about a boy who goes to dance and meet a beautiful woman and he falls in love (very complex, deep, poetic and beautiful lyric that talks about the confusing and paradoxical human existence ^^)
