love playing these maps over and over again cuz they are so awesome and cuz all of the monsters included in them are so cool and such.

and im really loving remaking all those awesome skins and models and such

    .

maybe hopefully in time ill be good enough to remake some of the new monsters too

true, but i cant even possibly do that, my skills in modelling arent anywhere good enough to completely remake the model to look like its covered in thick fur, and it would also raise the poly-count by a lot, even if i used flaps with semi-transparent fur texture on it to give the effect of fur

but this is closest to whats possible with the current model

none of those arctic fiends look like they are covered in that type of fur (not even the original). And it would take some serious work to even come close. You would have to change the entire shape of the model, primarily on the back, around the neck, forearms and ankles. In short, you would have to completely start over.

You can't be a "longhair" and smooth at the same time.

i agree with you about muscles and that the original fiend is kinda like a monster-bull, but.....
there is a detail you're overlooking

this version of the fiend has thick white fur all over like more akin to like a highland bull has, not short thin fur like a regular bull...

same kinda fur like the shambler has too

and thus the muscles wouldnt very visible cuz they're covered by thick fur

Now I see what I couldn't figure out before. I've been looking at your model for days thinking "something is missing.". Whats missing is the bucket of blood on his face. Your fiend is apparently a very civilized eater

But that's not bad per se. If you put all the same stuff from the original model, then yours will cease to be original. Maybe you can overlook the bloody face. However there iis one thing you might want to do. I know your guy is covered in fur but his major muscle groups should still stand out some. To me, the fiend is a fantasized bull, in this case a white one. So, we use a real white bull as a reference for where extra shading detail needs to be applied to bring out the muscle groups that would show on such an animal.

    Just my 2 pence.

    Your hoofs look really good.

i really like it myself, and it fits cuz the original arctic fiend had bloody hoofs too,
as you can see on this pic:

    @gdiddy
inspiration from these skin is the drake mod and the 'unforgiven' and 'something wicked this way comes' maps. this fiend can be found in the second map of the unforgiven maps, which is arctic themed
    UNFORGIVEN
    SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES

thanx gypsy for the compliment about the texture fitting so perfectly into quake and looking like original textures

hmm i might give your suggestions a try

You keep describing these as "HD" I don't see where this is HD. To me, it looks more like a really clean original Quake texture. Which is really really good (IMO). I like how it look more like a graphic novel and less like plastic. I also like how it is essentially flat, there is no drama to the texture.

I think if the hoofs were as black as they are brown, it would probably look good. maybe with a little "rim" of blood stains to complete the realism that this thing has probably stomped through plenty of it's meals.

suddenly realized i had forgot to also update the gib-texture in last update

so i took a look at the gib-texture and luma too, making the same changes to it,
and i thought of what gypsy said and did what he suggested, made the eye and the luma both darker, so the eyes are more darker and only slightly glowing on the gib anymore
