@Grim Warlock
I think there are a lot more sub-genres now.
I have seen these bands live (on these tours) :
Obituary
Death
Cannibal corpse
Deicide
Morbid Angel
Entombed
Carcass
I guess they might be like Black metal.
I calmed down a bit after that and started listening to (plus live on these tours, except Frost. They where part of a multi line up somewhere)
Slayer, Sepultura, Kreator & Celtic Frost.
Happy days....

Actually a lot of those bands are death metal, here's a few examples of black metal:
Symphonic black metal: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgQRRI9goFg[/ame]
Atmospheric black metal: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Jfo1UR6CyI[/ame]
Raw black metal: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUrVtR4HrAY[/ame]
There's more genres out there, but those are the main ones.

Wow! sub-genres within sub-genres.
Yeah, we classed them as death metal.
Interesting stuff, they sound similar to the uninitiated.
What would you say are the major differences between Black & Death metal are?
At the other end of the spectrum, I am currently listening to Danzig.Username : Atomic Robokid on Steam

Hmm, I think the differences are clearly defined even to someone who isn't familiar with both genres. Black metal is atmospheric and is characterised by tremolo picking, shrieking vocals. Death metal is brutal and is characterised by low-tuned guitars, guttural vocals.

Fair enough, those two do sound very different.
I guess there was some crossover bands at some point?
I remember, maybe, BIG MAYBE, that My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost moved more towards what Covenant sounds like for some tracks.

Just out of interest, what else do you listen to?
And do you play the guitar?Username : Atomic Robokid on Steam
