            • Not really an Eagles fan. I DO NOT like Don Henley. Joe Walsh was awesome. Don Felder was kinda cool too. After the Eagles broke up in the late 70's, Don Felder did a couple songs for the Heavy Metal soundtrack, one (or both, not sure) featured another former Eagle, Timothy B Schmidt, on bass. Love this song. Slow and groovy with one of the coolest bass lines ever heard.

              • Haha, Slayer playing blues-rock, this is so cool (and a bit weird TBH)! So they found a successor to Hannemann, good. When I heard of his death, I thought they might call it quits, him being one of the two main composers and the band leader, kind of. Who's the guy?

BTW, I totally dig the all-black drumkit - even the cymbals are black!

As a side note, Araya is beginning to look like a metal Santa... A Slanta!

@Don Felder: it IS a cool bass line. Reminds me something but I can't pinpoint it ATM (maybe a Pink Floyd tune? The song kinda has something of a Floyd feel). Not Tony Levin level of awesomeness, but very cool indeed.

                • Former Exodus (and I guess "current" too) guitarist Gary Holt. He and Pat O'Brien from Cannibal Corpse filled in for Jeff Hanneman back in 2011 when he was having health problems and couldn't tour. After Hanneman died in 2013, he stayed on as the stand-in. I don't think they've "officially" made him a full time member of the band, even now after he was featured as the 2nd guitarist on Repentless. The vast majority of Repentless was written by Kerry King - Holt wrote none of the album.

Dunno if the cymbals are black. Could just be shadow. It's an outdoor show, and I've heard of drummers using colored cymbals to reduce glare from the sun or stage lights. It's not really practical to paint them with anything because it changes the tone and dampens the ring/sustain. Then again... if anyone was gonna use black cymbals, Slayer would. I remember Jeff Hanneman used to use a wall of 4x12 Marshall cabinets behind him that was 6 cabinets wide and 3 cabinets tall. 6 cabinets, plus 6 cabinets, plus 6 cabinets, hint hint.

I liked Dave Lombardo, he did all the most legendary shit from Slayer back in the late 80's and early 90's. But I like Paul Bostaph better. Hopefully they won't have another "reunion" with Lombardo again any time soon. Bostaph is a better and more interesting sounding drummer in my opinion.

Bostaph killin' the FUCK out of it on drums...

                  • Man, it's been 4 years already?! Fuck, how time flies...

It definitely looks like there's more than just shadows here. Probably not paint, yeah, more likely some sort of special dye. I remember going to a Slayer show in Paris years ago (it was that mini-tour with Megadeth, Metallica and some other band, maybe In Flames - not the Big Four tour, way before that). They had 2 sets of speakers ominously looming over each side of the stage, forming a pair of suspended inverted crosses that looked fuckin' awesome.

Lombardo is more of a technician, more nuanced and overall has more soul in his playing. Bostaph is a fucking machine! He has more POWAAAAH, pounds his drums like a relentless blacksmith from Hell and is a better fit for the more grinding style they developed after Lombardo left. Both have their own merits and I don't value one over the other. They're just the perfect fit for their respective eras. I do prefer the Bostaph years but not especially because of him, more because that's when they made their most experiMENTAL stuff. 23 years later, I'm still in absolute love with the vocals to Serenity in Murder and those flanged drums. Speaking of...

Haaaahhh, that felt good! Now returning to our regularly scheduled program:

I was very disappointed with the Lombardo revival. It wasn't bad per se but they simply canned all their years of evolution to do some less inspired sub-par Seasons with literally nothing new. What was very exciting on paper ended up being so meh that I didn't even bother to lend an ear to their 2nd album! A huge step back on all accounts, including production-wise. I still need to listen to Repentless. How is it compared to the original Bostaph albums?

                    • I would call Lombardo LESS technical than Bostaph, personally. Lombardo was straightforward march beats 24/7. Bostaph mixed it up more with different styles and tempos, and had he not been with the band, albums like Diabolus and God Hates Us All (with hints of nu-metal etc) would've never been made and it would've been more of the tired old Seasons era type shit just like what was on Christ Illusion and World Painted Blood. And in many live videos, he's heard playing simplified dumbed down versions of old songs. Dunno if it's his age or just laziness, but I've never noticed Bostaph slipping like that.

I mean... when some cutesy bitch in high heels can play your shit... maybe your shit ain't that hard to play.

                      Rant mode:
These videos are a dime a dozen on youtube now. You get all these videos of hot model-looking chicks in low cut stretchy shirts with their tits hanging out as they play guitar or drums or "sing" some death metal. People (horndog DUDES) trip over each other running to post comments to them about "YOURE SO TALENTED, YOURE SO AWESOME", which they OBVIOUSLY wouldn't do if the person in the video were your average ugly metalhead dude in his 30's. This is how the music industry works now. You can't be 4 ugly but talented dudes from bumfuck California anymore and get a big label to sign you. You have to have "the look". You have to have a hot chick in a halter top or a bare midriff tank top who everyone wants to fuck as your singer. Nobody in the band can be fat or normal looking, everybody has to wear crazy tacky shit to advertise that they are an eclectic artist type. And the idiots who think having a big titted slut as your singer is a great approach to fame and fortune... they should be aware that it's a piss-poor long term strategy. Because looks fade rather quickly. And moreso than that, a man's sexual attraction to a woman fades even faster after he's jerked off to her once or twice and then begins looking for his next hot piece of "jackin' fodder" on the pornternet. And besides all that... just seeing these videos of chicks with their tits falling out at me as they play Iron Maiden songs... I take the whole thing as a personal insult, because the video is them assuming that I'm too stupid to know what the fuck their angle is. "Derp, I'm just a guy, and I'm incapable of thinking with anything but my stupid cumbersome dick that gets hard whenever I see a hint of boobies, herpa-derp!" Bitch, please. I value fuckin' Fred Durst as an "Artist" more than some bimbo who uses tits as a "talent."

First time I got to see Slayer live was in Atlanta for the beginning of the 2nd leg of the 2001 or 2002 North American tour for God Hates Us All. The 1st part of the tour had Paul Bostaph on drums, the 2nd part had Dave Lombardo on drums. Sure it was cool to see the original lineup doing a 3 hour set of mostly older songs. But I was kinda hoping to see Bostaph instead. In Flames and Soulfly opened. I came in halfway into In Flames, never much liked them. I used to love old Sepultura (Chaos AD was the SHIIIIIIIT), but Soulfly sucks balls. Max Cavalera is a hack, dude writes garbage songs and can only play a guitar with 4 strings tuned in dropped D like a retard. Honestly, Derrick Greene is 1billion times more talented than Max Cavalera ever thought about being.

                      • Even though absolutely nobody cares:
I switched from Serbian war songs to romantic folk songs. Basically, I got bored of listening the same stuff. Then, while I was on one stream, someone with the username "UJKO IPČE" (Uncle Ipče) came, and they were talking about Ipče the singer. I asked "Who was Ipče?" and they recommended me to listen to his songs. I ended up listening to his brother's songs because I like Jašar's voice more.
So, now I'm much more into romantic folk than war folk. Though, I have to say, I still listen to war songs a bit. :3
I really like these two, lol:

                        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhzeJQN4Gp8

                        Hmm:

Now this is what's wrong with the Internet.
There are two main obstacles to become successful: having to be beautiful, and having to be talented.

The trick is, you can be beautiful but not talented, and you'd still make it.
But you can't do it vice-versa (i.e. not be that beautiful, but very talented). This pretty much applies to a lot of things nowadays (especially things like let's-play channels on YouTube, although that has its third obstacle - being entertaining), and I don't think that this is good for people with real talent, but not the looks.

Hmm, that even applies to the songs I listen to. Jašar is a little bit ugly (and pretty old), but his voice is epic as well as his songs. Then, on the other end, there are people who include good-looking women in their songs' videos (and they don't put nearly as much effort into singing) and they pick up 10 to 100x more views.
