  • QStart

I've uploaded QStart (and the dll files for it) to Shub-Hub.

If you know of better alternatives please suggest them here.

You can use more modern clients by renaming them to match the client names used by the program for example rename Qrack to vQuake.exe or whatever.

    What is Qstart for?

QStart is a Quake front-end for Windows95 or WindowsNT. It allows you to
use your QuakeC mods, user maps, and personal config files without having
to set up individual shortcuts or batch files for each configuration.
QStart also allows you to set a large number of Quake command-line options
using the standard windows property-sheet interface. Support for WinQuake,
vQuake, and glQuake is included in QStart.

QStart offers the unique (among Quake front-ends, as far as I know) preset
feature. If you run Quake in a number of different ways, as I do, you can
set up each configuration and save it to the section of the windows registry
where QStart stores its data. Any time you want to run Quake with your
'preset' options, just run QStart, select the configuration you want from the
Preset box, and hit the 'Quake!' button. You can save any number of Presets.
This cuts down on system clutter - now you only need one shortcut to QStart
to access all of your Quake set-ups.

QStart is mainly intended for single-player and LAN/modem play. Many great
utilities already exist to manage Quake internet play. I recommend QSpy to
anyone searching for such a utility.

Oh right, I should have probably mentioned something about that.
It gives you these three windows which let you launch Quake with almost any set-up you desire in a simple gui-fied fashion.

The main limitation is with engines as it only supports dos, win, gl and vQuake (whatever that was). The workaround for that is to rename proQuake, Qrack and DarkPlaces .exes and you're up and running.

lol the "quit" says "wuss out" XD

        ------------------------------------------------------i found this

VQuake, or Vérité-accelerated Quake, was the first 3D-accelerated version of Quake. It's the reason I bought a Screamin' 3D card back when they were first released. It's the reason the words "Rendition" and "Vérité" produce warm feelings in my heart that remind me of Christmas.

As a native port, VQuake specifically takes advantage of hardware features in the v1000 chips, but will also work on v2x00 chips. It provides many of the features found in GLQuake such as bilinear filtering, which eliminates the appearance of square pixels, especially up close. The most noticeable difference from GLQuake is VQuake's inability to display transparent water surfaces. VQuake, however, does contain at least one feature not available anywhere else -- anti-aliasing, which sharpens (straightens) otherwise jagged lines and particles. VQuake is also a DOS-based program which will run in Win95.
