What do you all think of a 2 v 2 ctf ladder? From the failure of a league and a tournament I've come to realize that the one thing that could work in the current state of nqctf, is a ladder.
I made many mistakes the last couple times, here are a few that come to mind. I actively recruited players that were exclusively ca/dm players, which led to players who were unreliable. I also recruited players who used to play nqctf, but had become inactive for quite a while. Like the ca/dm players, these players were also unreliable and lost interest quickly. With the type of players listed above and the league/tournament format it was a recipe for failure. Once one player becomes inactive it leads to almost a domino effect where the team then becomes inactive and then the whole league collapses. In a ladder format if a team, or player becomes inactive it doesn't impact the competition quite like it would in a league or tournament.
So here are my basic suggestions, which are subject to change when I get input from the possible players. Teams of two, which are formed by the players themselves. Last time I tried to put together equal teams with the people who registered. It was a pain in the ass and ended up complicating things. Allowing the players to form teams ensures that the teams contain two players who get along and can keep in contact. I hope that players realize that there's nothing on the line here other than some friendly competition, so please don't form a super team that contains two superb players. Try to team up with another player who compliments your skill level. We can do either one map, where the winner of that wins the match, or best of 3, whichever you all prefer. I'm going to limit the maps that can be chosen to the ones in which 2 v 2 is playable.
We have at the minimum 10 - 12 active players, so if that's all we get that still gives us 5 or 6 teams, which is plenty for what I want to do. I have more to say, but I don't want to make this post longer than it already is. I just want to start the discussion.
