  • ShowDown 1v1 NQDM Tournament signups open

Signups are now open for the ShowDown- 1v1 NetQuake DM tournament. The registration deadline is Saturday, March 9, 2013, at 11:59PM EST, and the match schedules will be posted Sunday, March 10, 2013.
    Signup at http://www.q1dm.com .

Here is a rundown of the rules for the tournament:

    ShowDown 1v1 NQDM Tourney Rules

    01. Introduction

ShowDown is an online NetQuake 1on1 deathmatch competition that uses a double elimination system. Whenever a competitive aspect is present, some rules will be necessary to make sure everyone can face eachother in a fair environment. The tournament system and its regulations provide for smoother handling of the competition and gives it the official nature that separates a tournament match from regular practice games.

    02. Registration

ShowDown is open for all North American NetQuake players. However, non-North American players are free to sign up as long as they play their matches in North America.
Upon registration you will be given a username and password, this is for reporting matches and is unique for each player, so don't lose it or give it away.
Players with multiple registration entries will be disqualified.
The registration deadline is Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 11:59 PM EST. The match schedules will be posted Sunday, March 10, 2013.

    03. Game settings

    Timelimit 10 minutes.
    Overtime 5 minutes.
    DMM1 (weapon-stay off).
Powerups (default is OFF, unless both players agree otherwise)

    04. Maps

Any maps, including custom maps, are allowed in ShowDown.

    Best-of-Three-Matches
A regular game in the running season is a best-of-three match.
First, both players must agree on a list of 3 maps.
Then, the player listed at the very top of the scoreboard picks the first map.
Then, the second player will choose the second map to be played.
The remaining map will be the 3rd map if the game is tied after round 2.

    Best-Three-of-Five-Matches
The finale of the winner's bracket, loser's bracket, and the grand finale game will be a best-of-five-match.
First, both players must agree on a list of 5 maps.
Then, the player listed at the very top of the scoreboard picks the first map.
The second player chooses the second map from the remaning 4 maps.
The player listed at the very top of the scoreboard then picks the third map from the remaining three maps.
If a fourth map is needed, if the game is 2:1, the second player chooses the fourth map from the remaining 2 maps.
If a fifth map is needed, and the game is 2:2, the last remaining map will be played.

    05. Cheating

If any player is suspected of cheating, a demo should be sent to [email protected] .
Forms of cheating include: player/item/powerup model hacks, aimbots, wall texture hacks, etc.

    06. Scheduling matches

Each player should attempt to contact their opponent by talking to them on servers or by email or pentstools.com forums in order to schedule their matches. You can view opponent's emails by clicking on their name.

    07. Reporting matches

The winner of the game reports the match results as soon as possible using the 'Report Match' function on the ShowDown webpage. If the winner somehow can't provide a match report the other player will get permission to do it. WinQuake users should save the demo and then take the screenshot with either Gl or D3D proquake or qrack.
No match reports will be registered before the match has been reported 100% correct.

    08. Servers

In general the game can be played on any server both players agree to play on. ping.
On request of the other player, the lower pinging player may ping up to a point equal to or less than 50ms.

A list of servers can be found on in the 'Servers' section. This list only provides a base of servers which you are free to use. You can of course use other servers as well.

    09. Timeframe

All matches will have a deadline, which is usually 1 week. If players get their matches done sooner, they may play their next opponent sooner if their next matches have already been set. If players can't organize themselves to get games played and reported by the end of the deadline, WO(walkover) will be given to the player that proved admins that he really tried to make the game happen. Please report your the WO(walkover) to an admin before the deadline is over at [email protected].

Deadlines for each stage of the tournament will be announced at the "Next Match" link in the User-Panel.
In order to guarantee some coverage of the bigger games, the schedules for the WB Finale, LB Finale and Grand Finale have to be arranged with an admin.

    10. Tournament system

The ShowDown Tournament uses a Double Elimination system. Depending on the number of signups we choose a 32 players-bracket or a 16 players-bracket. When there are only a few more players signed up than the bracket allows to have (for instance 20 players don't fit into the bracket), then we will have a qualifying round, where the players with the lowest seeding numbers play each other (in this example the last 40 players), so that everybody gets a chance to play.Below i use the abbreviation WB for winner's bracket and LB for loser's bracket.

The initial seeding into the WB is done manually by the admins. Here we seed as many players as we can, using a seeding-groups method. This means we seed players with almost the same skill level into one group and randomize the order within every group.

Players who loose their WB-game are knocked into the LB.They are seeded again into the LB according to their match-number in the WB, in order to prevent that a player has to play his WB-opponent who sent him to LB too near in the future.Players who loose their LB-game are out.

    11. ShowDown admins

If you ever need our assistance or have any questions, you can email us at [email protected].

If both players agree to it beforehand, then the match could be played at quake.shmack.net:26002 using the vote-hook command, but runes should be turned off using the "vote-runes" command.
