  • Having fun with bump maps.

Well, after messing around with blender and photoshop i came up with these.

This is a vanilla quake texture that i decided to crate a bump map after, looks ugly.

After messing around with blender and Photoshop, I've created a displacement map and added small amounts of noise.

I might actually consider doing this as some type of project, but that could take months.

UPDATE: just realized that these are not bump maps, just displacement maps *oops*.

Even more fun with bump maps.

I added tons of noise to this.

Still a better result than first try.

Good normal maps bump mostly the underlying geometry of a texture, not all the noise.

Try to have softer edges so you get more visible highlights on them.

These are some of the normal I've generated with blender and edited with photoshop.

Some of them might look soft, that's because I've had to make a displacement map out of the normal file so they might look a little .

After following part of this tutorial it seems that i was able to get bump maps in blender to view via cycles.

                    Tutorial: GLSL Bump painting

Also found a video on how to view bump maps with 3D view correctly.

                    TL|DW

Don't sample as normal or it will glitch out.

Set bump map as normal geometry -0.3 and set color off in influence.

                    Generate as UV.

Set bump mapping quality (method) as best and texture space as texture.

I also found out that you have to invert the images right after you Desaturate them, you can adjust the intensity of the Desaturation via levels (ctrl-l) or use brightness contrast in adjustments menu.

I also figured out the hard way that it depends on what shading is done.

                      This should probably help.

Or you could simply Desaturate the photo and apply a highpass filter.
