  • Better sound fx

A few years ago, there was an April fools, where Spirit pretended that he'd somehow upsampled the Quake sound fx. The thing is, there really are higher sampled sound fx's which are available in Qtest. No psuedoscience jokes necessary.

I was playing around with the 44KHz grenade.wav from Qtest yesterday. I normalised it, fixed the clipping, enhanced the bass and filtered out some higher frequencies, and finally I faded out the noise/distortion at the end. Make your own minds up:

    Old 11KHz grenade.wav https://clyp.it/xs5lzqgj

    Cleaned 44KHz grenade.wav https://clyp.it/rzofkg3r

It would be cool to have an entire replacement pak, as it would cater to the needs of the enhancement crowd, who crave quality merchandise. It would also cater to purists, who crave the original.

There's a wad available for DOOM, done by a fellow called Per Kristian. He talked to Bobby Prince about how he created the sound fx for DOOM, and what libraries he used for the ones that he didn't make with foley. It feels like genuine DOOM and yet it sounds so oooomph. I can't play DOOM without it now.

So it was a basket ball the whole time.
I am like a stray dog, lost in between what I do and what I should do.
But sometimes, all you need is Imagination.
