  • help: doom64 maps for skulltag

    ive been searching for a while for this but ive had no luck on this.
    found a lot of clips on youtube from people who have it but none have links to the actual files.
    after much searching i managed to find addons which change the monsters, weapons, sounds, hud, music, decorations,
    but i didnt manage to find one last missing piece.... a wad with doom64 maps for skulltag

    skulltag forums themselves are closed, and i know a wad for this exists since ive seen clips on youtube of people which show doom64 maps in skulltag.

    so i thought maybe any of you here could help with this... any of you know where i could find a wad with doom64 maps for use with skulltag?

    i really love doom64, imo its without a doubt the best doom, and id love to be able to play it in coop with friends through skulltag

    Zandronum is the most recent version of skulltag.

    Doom 64 TC is old as hell, I don't think it supported multiplayer, but still worth checking out.

    As you can see, it's Doom64, on PC.

    If I recall, the installation was pretty simple, you just needed a valid copy of Doom2.wad and Doom64.<I forgot the n64 extension>

    I'll reinstall and see if it has the features you want. But this won't be using skulltag. Unless somebody has made a wad file for it, which would be pretty hard due to legalities

    But this does create a wad to use with doom2, so you may be able to use that as a workaround. So, create the wad file, boot into skulltag/zandronum/ect with the doom2.wad


    But I'll get back to you on that one. This is all I know at the moment since it's been a while since I last played it.

      yeah i have doom64EX myself, i play SP doom64 through that engine myself.
      however on the site of the engine it says multiplayer is unstable, and that clip you linked also states the MP part is broken still.


      zandronum? ive heard that name being mentioned before a few times.
      didnt know it was a continuation of development on the skulltag engine by someone else.
      thats great to know, that development on the engine isnt dead after all

        just checked that wad you linked, and that one also doesnt seem to include doom64 maps,
        and only include modified doom2 maps.

          I'll see what I can do then, if it doesn't exist I'll add that on my list of things to do. I need a reason to play through Doom64 again anyway.

          Basically, I'll make a Doom64.wad some time in the future.

            wait nvm it does actually contain doom64 maps
            just for whatever reason the first map that you get dropped into is a modified doom2 map
            but anything after that are doom64 maps

            of course the maps arent 100% the same, but that obviously has to do with skulltag not supporting some stuff that doom64 had, so i wont complain about that

              talisa Im not any help on doom stuff but i like your skulltag map. so even if you cant remake the doom maps for one reason or another i hope you make a few more maps like this there good gibbing fun.

                I'm sure I could make it work 100%. It's just the legalities of it, so I wouldn't be able to distribute it openly.

                  thanx JD. i wouldnt really know what to add more to that skulltag invasion map without it becoming repetitive, so i think i might just release the map with the last addition i made, and include the source so someone else could mebbe add more to it.

                  ill most likely make some more invasion-maps instead another time

                  i been thinking though about replacing some monsters with drake monsters and adding drake stuffs, but i dunno how to map for drake in GTKradiant. so id need help in how to do that first


                  but now first i wanna go and find someone to play those doom64 maps with in coop

                  yeah it should be possible to remake the maps more close to the original doom64 maps,
                  since skulltag nowadays supports stuff like floating platforms and such afaik,
                  and scrolling textures are supported too by skulltag i know for a fact, ive played maps which had those

                  mebbe you could see if you can look into the doom64 wad that you can make using the wadgen included with doom64EX,
                  and see if you can somehow convert those maps so skulltag/zandronum can read them?

                  also, about legality, i dun think ID would complain about something like that.
                  if they minded, wouldnt they have sued the maker of that cdoom64 wad?

                      id say go for it, we need authentic doom64 maps


                      also i noticed something odd...
                      that wad works fine in skulltag but when i try using it with zandronum the startup thingy stops with some error about some caco-light-whatever

                          you could look into the code mebbe?

                          if you do that and fix why it wont run in zandronum, could you also look into removing the random pickups enemies drop?
                          i think its silly and doesnt belong since doom64 didnt have something like that.

                          I like my doom64 without extra powerups and stuffs

                          hahah! i got the wad to run in zandronum by making zandronum load
                          skulltag_actors.pk3 & skulltagdata.pk3
                          and then cdoom64.wad last


                          anyways, could you still look into removing that monsters drop items when killed?
                          and of course more authentic maps too

                          oh, and could you also look into removing all non-doom64 maps from that wad?
                          i noticed theres more other maps in that wad too, like maps from gba version of doom

                            Sure, sorry for the late reply, spent all of yesterday fixing up my flatmate's pc. That thing is a plain nightmare.

                            Anyway, I'll hop to it. I don't remember D64 as well as the others, so I'll have to slowly comb through each map to make sure it's going to give that D64 experience.

                            By the way, so I know which maps are incorrect now, can you write a list of the wrong maps and send them to me? I can remove them and send it to you whilst I'm working on the rest of the game and send that back to you early. (If you know where the maps are from, do let me know, it means I can make backups of those maps into their own wads.)

                              ok sure thing, ill look at all the maps from that mod and tell you which ones arent from doom64, which ones are wrong order and which maps are missing.

                              also ill look at stuff like wrong music and wrong skies too, cuz i noticed some doom64 maps in that mod have wrong sky or wrong music playing as well
