Sure, logout/close the origin client, go to the folder where the game is installed and try to execute the dosbox.exe there, it usually have the game's icon. It will start origin instead, asking for your login information, only then dosbox will execute. then again, its no big deal.

As for Steam, check Shadow Warrior (the free one), it comes with the same dosbox.exe provided on the official site. Same can be said about Duke3d megaton edition (it comes with the dos version, too), heretic, blood, hexen, doom (classic) and maybe Strife Veteran Edition.

EA did try to attach DRM on the version of dosbox provided through origin, which is easy to bypass anyway.

Not that it matters (to me) but, got anything to back up that drivel? You'll note I use both Steam and Origin both so, that is why I'm curious.

470 games on steam, about 50 or so I'm sure I've gotten for free from various events, about 300 I didn't plan to get, but got in really cheap bundles and most of the rest I actually bought

I think I'll stick to steam since almost every free game offered on origin so far I either own or wouldn't play, but I don't think it deserves the hate it gets anymore

Origin > Steam, especially considering the CONSTANT flow of freebies. I've had an Origin account since 2013 and my game collection is booming with goodies.

Origin really isn't that bad of a client. Plus the game is free, you're not losing anything grabbing it, playing it and uninstalling everything later.

^ my SimCity 2000 Special Edition game folder folder.

I found another cat spreading that same misinformation over at @ IGN

SimCity 2000 Currently Free on Origin - IGN

I tweeted @ Katie to update the article to tout that it has zero DRM , can't even be launched via Origin, and utilizes DOSBOX.
