the one issue is that if you load the map files into any popular editor you instantly get issues, so a lot of the map actually has to be recreated by hand

and I just don't think many people have the time for that, otherwise the co-op mod would have been finished by now

(that said, I know somebody who wants to do a let's play of it with me, so I may actually get it done some time next year but don't assume that it means I /will/ make it)

Gotcha, that's what I thought, but wasn't sure. Based even on the little I've played it co-op I see what you mean.

Oh, the game never originally had co-op support and had a lot of bugs when you tried to do the missions because of how the game was designed.

Oh FYI you already can play it co-op so not sure what he meant by that. I've only played co-op briefly a few times but it worked ok just like doom, heretic, hexen, etc...

The game is a wad file for the Doom engine. Two wad files actually one for the game and one that contains the games voices. Anyone who already owns the original game can play in dos, dosbox or just use the wad files to play Strife with a doom engine port of your choosing. Skulltag, Zandronum, Zdoom, Chocolate Strife, Vavoom etc...

This is great! Yes, it did leave. It's source codes were lost in a systems crash, and were not seen again until some clever individual reverse-engineered the game. Love this!

oh god I do love a bit of strife, I remember a friend trying to remake strife, or update it

something about making it co-op, although he never really got far with that, maybe I should pester him and do the maps for him so co-op strife can happen

I never knew it left?! I play a few maps of it every month or so games and mods of Chex Quest, Doom, Doom2, Hexen, Heretic and so on. There plenty of Zandronum Doom/Doom2 servers online and a few other games. I know there is one American Strife Deathmatch server up right now called the [theultimatedoom.com] @ 162.213.250.136:10683. I never see anyone there but me.

Easy to win when you're the only one on! Its why I never bother to go there.

I recall the game logo (probably from some gaming magazine) but never had the pleasure of playing it. Is it good?
