  • Quake History

    I recall reading a text file back in '95 or so that had a lot of the early concepts for Quake, like the hammer (Mjolnir). I think it was by Romero, though I don't remember if it was in interview format. Anyone have that or know what that is?

    Also perhaps the "Masters of Doom" book had some stuff in it about early Quake plans; I don't remember.

      Nah I read it in 1995, before Quake even came out. I remember reading it with the LIST utility for DOS. Heh. Your link is really helpful, though.

                  Welcome, Spirit, keeper of the Archives.

                  That's closer to what I was thinking. And that's probably the sort of thing it was -- a typed-up interview from a PC Gamer type magazine or something.

                  Now that I think of it, there may also have been mention of them testing the game in DM, and there being piled up (stackable) bodies/corpses.

                    Thanks, Mom. I like that Quake Sketches link. I wish Romero would post those design docs of what Quake was originally supposed to be.
