Best Quake source port for multiplayer

    I recently replayed Quake for the first time in years and I enjoyed every minute, I used QuakeSpasm and I thought the game ran and looked* just great. Now I'm trying to get some DM games going with a friend but we're running into connection problems.

    That's why we're interested in getting another source port for multiplayer. Sadly, we really dislike the default look of those source ports. So now we're wondering which of those engine can be easily configured to look like Software rendered Quake/ QuakeSpasm.

    It would be great if the source port played nice with Frikbots too.



    *With QS I like to use gl_texturemode "GL_NEAREST_MIPMAP_LINEAR" and "r_particles 2"

    Edit: I may have answered my own question... I've just installed FTEQW and it's looking promising
