  • Version 100 - Your input?- What do you think about getting to one hundread releases?

    Hi quakeone guys.
    CEA made it to release 100. What do you think?

    MikeeUSA made a new map for this release: Saffer's War. Which is a trench-warfare map which is also pretty spacious so can be used for building towns and fortifications. You now have a fuller complement of WWI style weapons aswell (which you can use in any Q1 or Q3 map, ofcourse). From v 99 there are some more building options and fixes aswell.

    Also anyone have anything bad to say? I remeber some people saying that absolutly nothing is done in this mod. 130+ weapons would beg to differ. City generation would beg to differ. The new map would beg to differ. For the naysayers: show us your 100 releases of a project.

    Feels like election day night.

        I've been here like 6 years and no one seems to care...lol. Don't let it get you down. Just keep doing you, bro. If I were you, though, I would set up a wordpress site for your work, focus real hard on making it excellent and then just come here to drop simple updates that lead back to your wordpress. I would also rely on at least 1 social media site to get exposure. You could spend the rest of your life here talking to yourself.

        I'm a rare breed here cause, I don't give a fuck whether your project is some form of making quake all over again. I'll support anyone here that has any project at all. As long as it seems like a true effort is being made (which you are obviously making a hell of a lot of effort). Honestly, all this "Let's make quake again" stuff is not all that impressive to me. The work may be impressive but, the goal seems incredibly unoriginal. You have a style more like mine where you want to make things that haven't already been done to death. I respect that.

          Well to be fair, realistic weapons in Quake are probably not what a majority of Quakers are looking for. You've made a massive work but in essence it's destined to a very small portion of what is now a niche of players. I'll probably try your mod at some point out of curiosity but I'm one of these aforementioned Quakers and I have a shit-ton of stuff I'm more interested in playing first. Sorry... Props for the effort though and congrats on the 100th.

                  Here are some screenshots and a "press release", and videos if they will embed:
                  -----------
                  The Team is here, a year later, to again wish you a Merry Christmas, and bestow an early Christmas present! After years of constant, grinding, development Chaos-Esque Anthology has reached version 100. :City Vista:

                  Since last year the Team has been working on many new additions to the game:

                  Point defenses can now be constructed, in addition to new furnishings and buildings.
                  :Mounted weapon built as a point defense.:
                  Improvements to the city generation and foliage subsystems have been steady with new trees and buildings being added.
                  :View of new tower buildable.:
                  :Tank and new foliage:

                  For a more RTS feel, the Towers and Hangars now require additional resources for the construction of their turrets and vehicles: these resources can be created by forges of various types that take the in-game ammunition as inputs.

                  There are a myriad of new weapons, including "Terminator" favorites such as the Spas-12 autoloading shotgun, and the AMT Hardballer 1911 with laser sight.
                  Autoloading shotgun<

                  Additionally many WW1 weapons are now included; such as the Mauser pistol, the ChauChat machine rifle, and the MG 08/15. In total there are now over 130 weapons in the game.

                  Rolls of concertina wire can be laid out, however tanks and bulldozers can roll over these and other similar-class defenses.
                  :Barbed Wire:

                  Our resident mapper, MikeeUSA, has contributed a new map (with a backing track by Snabisch) for this release: Saffer's War. A fairly large map highlighting trench warfare. It has ample space for building towns and fortifications aswell: another goal of the map.
                  :Saffer's War:

                  Our project has expanded Xonotic's original cast of 18 weapons to over 130 weapons, has added new textures, and maps, aswell as a list of other features including: city generation subsystem (with interiors), building subsystem (build buildings, furnishings, doors, blocks, the buildings have interiors and function similar to RTS buildables), marshaling subsytem, foliage subsystem, aswell as mounted weapons and more vehicles. Additionally hand-to-hand fighting was added for those wishing for a Mortal-Kombat feel in a libre 3d video-game.

                  Enjoy Release 100!

                        @Where would be good places?

                        For one, with this much content you should have a professional website, PERIOD. Using wordpress to make that site would be smart and save you a lot of time. Use this link and you can get a host, domain, 1-click wordpress install and a hell of a lot more for just $1 for the first year. I just clicked my link and started the process as if I was you. Here is the proof. I of course did not complete the process so your domain is still available. However, it would only cost someone 1$ to completely fuck you so, if I was you I would go secure that shit. Every year after the first is (web space fee + domain fee =) $36.48.

                        Once your website is set up you should be using social networks to promote yourself. All these videos and images should be on twitter, facebook and/or some other social site.

                        You should change your signature on any forums you might be a member of to lead back to your website. Especially if that forum has high google rankings and/or is very popular.

                        Your website should be submitted to every search engine. You can do that in something that resembles one step here

                        There is more you can do but, what I have mentioned so far is going to keep you plenty busy. You are faced with 2 decisions in this world.

                        1) Do what I just said, reach the entire world and grow a large following for your work.
                        OR
                        2) Keep wasting your time posting and double posting here and NEVER GET ANYWHERE, EVER. This is not a "maybe". You posted all that stuff and as of right now I am the only person on this page. You don't even have a guest following. The quake community has spoken. They don't give a shit about your project. The good news is, who cares what maybe 500 people think. There are over 7 billion people in the world and six billion, nine-hundred and ninety-nine million, nine-hundred and ninety-nine thousand, five hundred of them are not on quakeone.

                        aside: Learn how to post. If you are determined to post here, stop posting the same shit to 2 different threads. You also have one post in this thread that just says "duplicate". What the fuck is that, bro? Delete that nonsense. Doing stuff like that is not helping you out. It makes you look like you don't have a fucking clue how to do the simplest things. That bad vibe carries over and makes people think your project might be just as screwy. It's all about perception, bro. If people think you are a dumb-fuck they aren't going to be interested in anything you have to share. Additionally, you have a bunch of random tags in your last post that don't do anything but make it look even more like you don't know what you are doing.

                        Flying Biplane: [video=youtube]

                        and then under that you have a video with a youtube header and the title is "ChaosEsqueAnthologyBiPlane"

                        what is this doing -> "Flying Biplane: [video=youtube]"

                        I'll tell you what, it's making you look confused and nooby. It is not adding anything to the experience of reading your post. It's just random garbage. You know what that makes me (and others) think? Maybe your project is full of random garbage. If you can't even make a proper post, how can I believe you can make an entire game/engine? These are the things you need to be aware of. Stop trying to reinvent page formats and get rid of that shit. I'm not being an asshole. I am being the best fucking friend you have ever had in your life. Everybody else is just watching you fail - if they are paying attention to you at all. I'm telling you exactly why this shit is not working out for you.

                            he wasn't trying to make video tags, if he was, what is this? [lgdb.org] and [moddb.com]

                            also [video=youtube] is not even how the video tag works. It varies from site to site (barely) but I have never seen a tag like that and the reason is simple. BBCode is just replacement syntax. Considering you will have to include the url to the video in the tag it really makes no sense to have to explain where the video is coming from. If some site actually uses that code they aren't very good at creating BBCode. The destination is whatever url replaces the token.

                            consider the image tag. Somewhere on this site is something like this

                            in
                            [IMG]{TOKEN1}[/IMG]
                            out
                            <img src="{TOKEN1}" />

                            there are no conditional statements in BBCode.

                            lets say
                            in
                            [video={TOKEN1}]

                            now what? let's say you could put vimeo, youtube, facebook...what would you do with that? there is no

                            if(TOKEN1 == "youtube") in BBCode.

                            the way to do that would be
                            [youTube]link[/youTube]
                            [vimeo]link[/vimeo]
                            etc and even then, only if the generic parts of the embed script are different. Like maybe one site is using iframes and the other is using flash player.

                              Considering there is a [video=youtube] tag before each video and a [/video] tag after, it does look like he was trying to make video tags. The sites, on the other hand, just look like bracketed clarifications, and these indeed make no sense.
