  • Looking for original Midctf and malice files

    Hi All,

I'm trying to dig up copies of old files that I'm missing:

    1) Anyone have an archive of the www.qamalice.com site? Or more importantly the downloads.html files referenced? (I asked this on quaddicted but this forum seems to have more members). They closed the site down in 2003. I found some but not all of the files in a planetquake/epoch directory.

    2) Anyone have a copy of NiCoDeMo's Midnight CTF? I mean the old version where you had to download a client patch (not the one integrated into allstarctf). I haven't been able to find this anywhere.

I think I had the most fun ever playing at one of the midnight CTF servers on fridays at midnight. This was before the days of glow paks where a pitch black level was just that.

          Old quake 1 mods.

Midnight CTF was a mod where almost the entire level is pitch black. If I recall correctly, there were still a very few select things that were slightly lit up (like lava). The idea was that it was pitch black and you had to use a flashlight to see where you were going (unless you're intimately familiar with the level) . You would also have to turn it on to see if the person you just heard was a friend or foe. It's been so long I may remember this detail incorrectly, but the flag carrier is lit up so everyone can see him/her. The old website is up but the NiCoDeMos version was hosted off site and is no longer available:
          http://www.planetquake.com/midnight/

Quake 1 malice was probably the best commercial total conversion for quake 1. It of course added new levels, weapons, enemies, etc. It was also neat because they did in game cut scenes as quake movies. There are lots of reviews around and even some that rank it higher than both official quake 1 addons. I'm not sure I'd rate it that high though ... the quake 1 addons weren't total conversions. From my memory, the level design in the official addons was better. Still, it's a blast to play. Site I'm trying to find an archive of:
          http://web.archive.org/web/200304261....qamalice.com/

At my LAN parties (old friends + free beer + tons of games + no sleep = good time!), we usually play other games like quake 3/4/HL/UT etc. But there's always a section where we go back and play the quake1 mods we used to love such as TF. I'm hoping to add midnightctf to that list...

CheapAlert is someone who might. He is an expert on mods, including lost mods, and I think even has the whole 7 GB of the PlanetQuake archive.
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Thanks but those are the 3W version not the NiKoDeMoS version.

I don't even know what the NiKoDeMoS version was called. I found a link to NiKoDeMoS and I may have to contact him directly to see if he has it. I haven't been able to turn up any copies.

I think the last release of NiKoDeMoS midctf was '97 so I doubt I'll ever find a copy unless some out there is more of a pack rat than me! I foolishly threw out all of my quake archives years ago because I thought I would never get back into it...
