  • help, please

I'm trying to run the very first Quake (shareware v1.06) under

    windows 98 - dos mode.

But i get a "OMPT: Cannot open"

error message when i run QUAKE.EXE.

    Can somebody please help?

    thanks,
    Wally

It might help if you if you use one of the newer clients available such as proquake. I'm led to believe it has numerous bug fixes and hopefully might solve your issue.

      thank you, Mr. Burns.

this was fixed by "path=c:\" in an AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

      now it works.

As well Wally you may want to skim some of the recent threads in "Quake Central" and surrounding areas, I seem to remember Quaker Oats starting a few threads as to improving functionality.

Delete opengl32.dll as it's not needed! ESPECIALLY ONLINE!

If your computer can handle it (if it's within the last few years it surely should) I suggest getting QRACK. QRACK Just hit the "Dowload" section on the site, click the very first download option, and take those files and place them ALL directly in your %SystemFolder%:\Quake which is probably C:\Quake
