      Be more specific please.
Do you mean the video displayed on the screen or recorded to a file?

Maybe he meant the classic "Video options" in Quake.

If so, and if he meant to change the game resolution, all engines should understand this:
        YOUR_Quake.exe -width 1024 -height 1280

(at least I think that those are the video extensions, didnt use them for a long time.)

          you use the menus.

if the engine is too old for fancy things like menus, you have to use the commandline, -width FOO and -height BAR or whatever. just make sure your monitor does that resolution.

In Windows 7, create a shortcut to your Quake client exe, it can be any client, then edit that shortcut.

            example :

In the TARGET field, add variables here.

            D:\Games\Quake\DirectQ.exe -width 1280 -height 1024

            as example.

In Windows XP , it would be like this
            "D:\Games\Quake\DirectQ.exe" -width 1280 -height 1024

,make sure it goes outside the quotes. (This could be wrong, its been ages since I used XP)
