  • Quake Ranger Discussion

note:this has nothing to do with this particular skin I used the first one google spit out as a reference

Quake Guy has 2 cheese graters tied 2 his thighs. This is not armor. It sits on top of camos that might be useful on mars but are negated by his bright yellow armor.

"They'll never see my legs on Mars. Well, except for my cheese graters."

Surely there is some way to authentically change him from his waist to the top of his boots, so he does not look ridiculous but still maintains the feel that everyone is accustomed to.

What do you think about this?

i was thinking abou this the other day... how blatantly dumb they made this guy's uniform. Were they trying to make another thrown together outfit?

But really those are thighpads, kinda like the NFL wears, but on the outside of the pants which is kinda unprofessional.

Yet, if you are hinting at reskinning the player and want user opinion, dont worry about the thighpads/color as most proper MP mods force a full team color on both shirt and pants.

Oh, I get that they are supposed to be "thigh pads", But they look like cheese graters. Actually, even if they looked like thigh pads it would still be a ridiculous excuse for armor.

I highly doubt that I will take the time to reskin the legs. I wouldn't trust myself to do a very good job to begin with. Visual art is simply not a strong point for me. I believe it hasn't been too long to remember what happened the last time I "remade" the Ranger. And even though that was a joke - my serious skills aren't a hell of a lot more impressive. I've made some OK models, but my skins are always pretty sad.

example of sad - lol my guy has thigh pads

Anyway, this was more to see what other people think about it. maybe even spur someone with the talent to do something like this quickly, to take a stab at making a less ridiculous uniform for the ranger, without changing too much.

Ya, I thought that too, but then I envisioned it and his legs would seem "unfinished" against the bulky armor vest. Maybe a holster on his leg? That doesn't seem like it would work with his gun or for maintaining the feel. Then I started to think that he could have kneepads with an armor plate which extended up to partially cover the thigh, but not be actually connected to it. I am still warping that around in my brain.

edit: Maybe the answer lies in my model. What if the cheese graters simply contoured to the leg muscles and get rid of the grater part?
