Check out this amazing Doom Eternal to Quake conversion: Slayer's Testaments by Bloodshot

You can play through regular Quake maps, converted Doom maps and even some from Heretic with Doom Eternal's weapons and encounter many enemies from id's latest title as well! Usually I am not into TCs which change Quake gameplay so radically and/or try to imitate another game, but this is really well executed. Also with tons of gibs sticking to walls and ceilings, dripping like crazy. Glory kills included! After you have obtained the Plasma Rifle, enjoy blasting through hordes of enemies with ease!

Usage of Quakespasm-Spiked is highly recommended for this one.

The author has gained a lot of praise but I'm wondering what is required to run this mod. Do you have to own Quake, Doom, Heretic and Doom Eternal (which I do) to get access to the maps and weapons etc?
Or is this mod kinda using illegal assets? I mean, even if they're converted they're still not owned by the mod author.
Don't get me wrong, if he has created all these assets by hand, inspired by the originals then he deserves the praise.

Thanks for the reply, that does answer the question of what is required: Just Quake and a source port.

I notice though that it doesn't address the bigger problem I might have with the mod, where are all the other assets from, that are included in this mod?
Did the author create them from scratch?
Or have they been converted from assets used in other games, like for example: Doom (2016) or Doom Eternal?

I realise it might seem like a minor thing, grabbing a gun model from Doom Eternal, converting it to a Quake source port compatible format, like MD3 then sticking it in your mod for all to download but...

It damn well would matter to me if I had made a game and someone out there was taking assets from it and using them in there own mod, wouldn't change things if I was selling the game or it was free.

This is a screenshot that is on the Slayer's Testaments moddb page.

This pic shows an area at the start of Doom (2016) and the combat shotgun from the same game.

If this map and that asset have just been converted from the originals and are being given away in that mod.

        It is not OK.

I recall I saw a conversation on the internets that Bloodshot has officially got the assets from Id Software. Frankly, I spent some time today trying to recall where exactly I saw this conversation - unsuccessfully. However it turns out the confirmation can be found in the permissions.txt file available along with the mod. Here's what it says:

"Thanks to these folks for the help!

          <...>

          ID Software - Doom 2016 model rips/sounds/textures"
