If I was Ruohis I'd be pissed that the best she could do with my textures is a few dollars. I mean, if you are gonna use my work, even if you have the right to, don't disrespect my stuff with some "pennies of worth" crap. That's what would be making me hot if those were my textures.

if i would be allowed to continue using his textures so the models look as authentic as possible.

really, i dont really care about the money much at all. i cheer when i see someone bought a quake item and i made a few pennies, but i really dont care about the money.
i constantly give stuff i make for free to all my friends if they like something i show to them

i agree, it was stupid of me to not check if there was a license included with ruohis stuff, i shouldve done that before.
i didnt think of the possibility of that these people mightve added licenses to their stuff

and yes i agree, spike is the only one who stayed fair imo and just came with facts about licenses. to him ive also reacted and ive worked to honor the licenses.

like QRP's license meant having to add where the textures were taken from and include a link to their website, which i added to the ads of all 3 quake maps
to honor the request of the maker to include this.

as i said and show constantly, i am working now to replace the textures and sounds of the weapons ive made with custom ones so i dont violate ruohis nor IDs licenses anymore,
and so that they are 100% my creation and nothing about them was taken from anybody else, and that they only 'look like' and no licenses are violated

That is not always an issue. Many products have been rebranded and sold, even free ones. It all depends on the license (or lack of one). I already stated in my above post that I do not agree with her negligence but, to be ganged up on for what she did in the wide open for all to see all along, even made posts about it... I remember reading a post here where she even said she was selling it (probably in the Second Quake thread). These are not the actions of a thief, these are the actions of someone that is ignorant to the facts of what they are doing. That doesn't make it ok but, it doesn't warrant a beating either.

I want to be clear, I'm not taking any sides. All of you are wrong in one way or another. All this drama cause someone made some 1$ models that only work in a game that none of you even play. Maybe she should mail everyone with work involved a $5 bill. That should cover recompense for the vast fortune she has received from this.

Oh wait, she probably hasn't even made any bills. I'm sure she (probably) gets paid in Lindens. Talisa you need to give Ruohis 1250 lindens, I'm sure he will want and can use them.

If there is some secret agenda to cull this site of long term but not exactly Quake members, you guys are doing awesome.

Hey Talisa, I agree that people are bringing this to an unfair level but don't misunderstand. It is your DUTY to determine what rights you have before you start selling things that incorporate things you didn't make.

There is no excuse on that level and I do not agree with what you did whether it was intentional or not. So please understand, how people are treating you is wrong but your negligence is also wrong.

You know though, you can fix your mistake and be more diligent in the future. The majority of people that are against you though, have a long line of history posting others faults and giving "THEIR" advice as if it was fact. These people could apologize til they are blue in the face and it wont amount to a hill of beans cause they will just do this again to the next person they disagree with.

Spike is maybe the only person in this thread that just kept stating facts and logic without an attitude problem (as I read it). He posted links to facts about the license etc.. Move his post to a PM and all of a sudden this place resembles a grown up environment.

A very short existance in the Q1 universe isn't an excuse of ignorance. Many great things have come and gone thanks to people just blatantly ignoring licencing rules.


Trujen and XQuake and his refusal to release the source code, a perfect example of why coloring within the lines matters.

XQuake was the fucking shit when it came out, but because Trujen was more worried about people stealing his code so he didn't release the source, his Planetquake site was shutdown shortly thereafter and XQuake went the way of the dodo.(And,ProQuake servers did not get an updated modern engine support for another fucking at least 8+ years.

Her biggest mistake was downplaying like it was nothing. This game is too weakened a state to just be like that.

Anyway, the Return to Castle Wolfenstein (RTCW) based game, Enemy Territory, is a free download. Sometimes I think about rounding up a petition to see if Carmack would make Quake 1 free.

But I wonder what the answer would be? One benefit for IDSoftware is the enormous amount of ideas and coding that can be used to mold future IDSoftware games. Would Carmack think something like , "Yeah Quake 1 is no threat to out revenue stream and it wouldn't hurt to make the Pak files, thus the registered version which CAN run mods (the shareware version CANNOT run mods) .. I'll go ahead and make it free" or would Carmack think "No, we released the Quake source and some developers don't even honor the simple agreement. If the developer community runs out of players because no one sells Quake 1 new, their fault that they can't honor simple agreements. "

Honestly, does ignorance justify the actions? IMO,no. Anyone creating content (or theiving for the matter) should do themselves a favor and find out what can and can't get you in trouble.

You know what's fucked up? We all know Talisa and I think it's pretty safe to say that none of us really believe she is attempting to sell other peoples works in a "Hah, Fuck You" way. Are you perfect? I'm not...make mistakes all the time. The posters here have literally jumped on Talisa like she is a traitor all of a sudden. What if (ex) Spike (cause he brought actual facts) PM'ed Talisa those facts (friendly) with the friendly reassurance that "Really! you can't use those! It's illegal!"? Or some other grown up friendly way to help YOUR FRIEND Talisa not to make a big mistake.

No, instead we get the biggest names on this site turning all of this reversible stuff into the disaster of the century. None of you even created the works that she is using. In essence it's like you people just want to gang up on and fight somebody.

I'm not here to defend Talisa or anything she has done. I'm standing up against bullying and unnecessary negativity. Some of you should really reconsider your method for approaching someones mistake. I do not believe even 1% that Talisa was purposely trying to make money off the works of others. That simply was not the spirit of her intentions - if it was I highly doubt that she would have been so open about what she was doing. I also doubt she would have started retexturing things to be in compliance with what is legal.

if i did, would i have gone through the painstaking effort of building all these models and items from the ground up with the tools SL has to offer?
i did that exactly for the reason cuz i didnt want to do that, and wanted these items to be made by me and feel like i really achieved something,
and so it wouldnt look like i was trying to make money off of other peoples hard work, which was never my intention.

and its saddening that everybody here suddenly declared me 'the devil' for a simple mistake,
and instead of helping me to fix this mistake i get my head ripped off by everyone

It's very obvious that you've just ported the meshes to that silly games format and used the same textures...I
don't for one second believe you made these textures or meshes. They likely line up exactly with
the original models in an editor.

The double barrel looks like it's from the weapons pack I spent some time on...pond scum.

If you weren't such a liar and cheat (selling donations), you could have gotten the stunning new weapon skins I made for these models.
