You want quake to be big, then promote it, make people aware and organise events where people online can gather, chat and play quake. Maybe stick to one engine for these events, or one kind of engine. This very site is specialising in netQuake (if I'm not mistaked), and there's even a quake like game being developed here on the site to make up for the lack of a free to play quake 1.

So you've got these groups and then you make a central website, so people from all over the different forums can gather and sign up, maybe have it so profiles sync to popular servers and have a very primitive elo system for social banter and "my ePeen is bigger than yours". There, you have a pseudo competitive environment with a free game, what's to lose? Well now what's to win, find a good advertising company for the ads, and make sure they're not intrusive. So when you /KINDLY/ ask people to not use adblock, it doesn't annoy them. This gets trust from people, they want to support you now. Fantastic.

Events, people like quake and quake is one of the grandfathers of eSports, why can't it be an eSport game again? It can be, have a section of the site dedicated to mapping, or work with other sites for competitive map jams.

ie ; MAKE A COMPETITIVE MAP FOR THE UPCOMING FFA TOURNAMENT, SPONSORED BY <brand name>. So basically, you've got ad money coming in (not a huge amount), and a tournament, where you can probably do a prize pool based on a percent of sponsor inputs (although this is a gray area, you may be requesting hardware at a discount price, but I'm not going that far into detail in one post).

PRIZE POOL = USER INPUT, have a donation button, but take a cue from kickstarter and other crowdfunding websites, for donating certain amounts, people get merchandise or something. I really have no idea on this one, but this is just a post.

Playing single player mods, that's right, get them to play the latest mods and have a page where people can download the mod (with installation instructions) and a donate button where the people who made this mod can get money (5% can go to the site)

I really do want something like this as soon as possible, especially with all the content being made lately and the rise in interest in quake. (With quake live's apparent update, I think more people would be willing to try the original quake as an alternative)

I just finished eating a bologna cheese mayo sammich, it was fuckin delicious, wasn't quite full but didn't feel like dicking around in the kitchen again,so I made a lazy grilled cheese,which is basically bread + cheese + microwave haha.


For the record, Mark's presumably blaming me for all the blowback he's receiving for his mailing list. I'm just the one who tends to be a loud-mouthed FUCKER about things and I did what I do best,I made noise.I was the first one to call bullshit from a bullshitter, thats it.

At this point in time it's trivial,and I wouldn't dare ask anyone who's been affected by the mailing list to defend me. I can defend myself,but it's not like Mark really gave two shits about me to begin with. Mark's Quakeone Network didn't involve me at any point in time until I asked him about it.

Mark had plans for my wife to be involved with his project long before he even considered me, and thats okay. Am I butt hurt about this? Not a bit. Will Mark rant about me @ the next Quakeone Network meeting? Maybe, very well a possibility, then again he might not even mention me. Thats fine too.

If there was a "subscribe to our mailing list" feature I promise you it would have been unchecked. You know, sending subscription mail without a working unsubscribe footer in the mail is not legal. You have to provide people with a way to opt out of your list, and buried on some site in a profile page is not acceptable.
