Please explain this to an old-school individual who still uses Windows XP... Aero themes? What is that?

its a bunch of special effects such as transparent windows, and other junk. win 7 will ask you to turn off aero effects if you are low on memory. more can be read here: aero effects-wikipedia

why don't you just disable the aero junk completely?
