  • Recent Forum Spam

So due to the recent forum spam, I have re-enabled the system I used in the past which would verify IP addresses, usernames, and email addresses against a master database of known spammer accounts. This did cause problems by falsely identifying people as spammers in the past, but at this point this is the only way around the recent influx.

Someone suggested to only allow new threads to be created after you have X number of posts. This may help with some of the spam posts, but the spammers will then just start adding spam posts to already open threads.

We'll see how the spam checking system works.

Well then if there is a " human " intelligence behind it, IE: an already approved member pushing the creation of the spam accounts, they just got a heads up how to get around things. I guess that assumes you arent putting up a red herring for them.

I recently saw a new captcha system that was very impressive.

^ It doesn't matter if there's human intelligence behind it or not, if the human is spamming other forums and they get reported, their IP will get on the list and will eventually be unable to register here then.

The recent forum spam is a non-issue. Once a week there is some spammy post with a spammy title. Big deal. I've seen members here make a career out of being emphatically more spammy, with posts that are equally as impossible to read.

nothing wrong with keeping the site tidy?

I'll go on a limb and say this ; I'll gladly accept the most trivial of nonsense from an actual member who has invested more time than some automated markov chain abusing Viagra spam bot post.

I am pretty sure holding an opinion on whether a post is spam, and an actual post about 'Product X' from a first time poster pushing 'Product X' =/= one another in any capacity.

I have yet to see a post of someone working at home with a good sum amount of money whilst posting some bogus website.

Yet i don't want that to happen.
I am like a stray dog, lost in between what I do and what I should do.

Make note of when your 10th post was made, it should be editable 1 hour after that 10th postings time,or sooner!
