OMS2: Conflagrant Rodent
Func_Msgboard Thread
A large single player release by ORL that appears to feature textures and architecture reminiscent of his Blaze DM map. OMS2 is too large for standard Quake and requires FitzQuake 0.85, DirectQ, DarkPlaces or Enhanced GLQuake to play it.
Recent Stuffs
Stolen does an axe only speed run for E1M1 (vid). Why hasn't Quake been "axe-only"-ed? Phenom has made detailed instructions on how to compile Qrack 1.60 on Linux and a YouTube video showing how. A 64-bit patch is also in the thread.
Firefox Plug-In FTEQW
There is a version of FTEQW that can be installed as a browser plug-in for Firefox, Chrome, Safari called "npfte" (np = Netscape plug-in). Lacking a current working URL for this; if I find one will update this.

HTP2: Hexen 2 Texture Pack Release
Inkub0 has released his texture pack for Hexen 2 in the forum and Spike, the author of the incredible FTEQW engine, has ramped up Hexen 2 support in recent weeks.
FTEQW supports at least 8 games and QuakeTV and our Anti-Wallhack is derived from FTEQW so even if you don't know Spike or his engine, we've all benefited from his work.

QuakeOne Drama: Does Wolv Finally Respect Baker?
As predicted, Wolv is capable of beating Baker at Rocket Arena ... doing so 15-0 [this has occurred 3 times in history; this was #3]. However, Wolv --- who "does not respect admins who don't play" witnessed Baker dismantle non-Wolv opponents at Rocket Arena handily. Does Wolv finally respect Baker? I hope so! (And hey, Kimp didn't even flood me! A nice courtesy!)
Tomorrow: Much more news.

Solitude: The Halo Inspired Quake-Based Game |

Project: Solitude
Solitude is a Halo-inspired total conversion using the Quake engine to make a multiplayer and single player experience for both Windows and the Sony Playstation Portable.
These guys are diehard determined to finish the game, despite hitting several roadblocks along the way. Their determination should be commended and when they finish the game, it is certain to be supported in some shape or form by the Universal Server project.
Solitude Project Page at Moddb. As far as I know, the above gameplay video is their content in DarkPlaces. And it is my understanding that the project will be open source upon release.
John Carmack Releases Enemy Territory/Return to Castle Wolfenstein Source
Thread at Inside3d.com --- where most of the serious Quake development discussion that isn't happening at QuakeOne.com occurs (and far more involved and technical than what is discussed here). Enemy Territory is the free multiplayer game released in late 2003 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein was released in 2001.

VeniVidiFuzzi
This is a single player release by Madfox featuring new enemies including a new boss and a Quake 3 style skeleton monster. This is a very large map that somehow manages to not break any limits. The gameplay is hard, but very satisfying. Read Tronyn's review of this release at Quaddicted here.
Thread and download here: Q1SP: VeniVidiFuzzi
The QuakeC for this single player mod is open source, so it will eventually be supported for coop in Universal Server.
To catch up on the news, the next several days will feature a new news item. Upcoming: Solitude, the Halo-style Quake Total Conversion plus the Return to Castle Wolfenstein/Enemy Territory source release by John Carmack. The new Hexen 2 Texture Pack. Quake Reforged: The scariest Cthton ever. Red Slammer. FTEQW Browser Plug-In version. And More!

The primary author of the open source EDuke32 engine joined the Duke is back! thread. Very refined multi-platform high quality rendering engine for Duke Nukem 3D. The engine can be downloaded at EDuke32.com where you can also buy a copy of Duke Nukem 3D for $5.99 which helps support EDuke32 development. Read the thread ...
/The rare non-Quake news item, but we did talk about Half-Life a ton when Avirox made Quake-Life.

Survival Mode
Have you ever wanted to play deathmatch in a Last Man Standing type of environment? You die, that's it. But there are more rounds, of course.
Bam has written this feature into the standard QuakeC as an option, with the option being "deathmatch 3".
And, in fact, there is now a tutorial on how to implement this into most ANY mod at Inside3D. You can find the tutorial at this link. Eventually when the Universal Server project gets more attention, this is certainly to be included.
Pictured: RMQ Engine (not a Remake Quake map)
MH Joins Remake Quake Project
Quake Remake (blog site) is an ambitious on-going single player and multiplayer modding project with many goals including bringing a broad new feature set as standard to Quake. It has had a great deal of impact on engine development, for example rotation support.
MH authored THE color lighting tool used in Quake, is the author of the DirectQ engine and authored some of the "boosted" code in the most recent ProQuake updates (the dx8pro uses his OpenGL to Direct 3D 8.1 wrapper, WinQuake animation smoothing, overbright lighting, etc.)
Obviously, MH is like having at least 10 engine coders and he has joined the Remake Quake project to help them implement several ambitious features to have more features available for Quake map making.
