Have you ever wanted to play deathmatch in a Last Man Standing type of environment? You die, that's it. But there are more rounds, of course.

Bam has written this feature into the standard QuakeC as an option, with the option being "deathmatch 3".

And, in fact, there is now a tutorial on how to implement this into most ANY mod at Inside3D. You can find the tutorial at this link. Eventually when the Universal Server project gets more attention, this is certainly to be included.

MH Joins Remake Quake Project

Quake Remake (blog site) is an ambitious on-going single player and multiplayer modding project with many goals including bringing a broad new feature set as standard to Quake. It has had a great deal of impact on engine development, for example rotation support.

MH authored THE color lighting tool used in Quake, is the author of the DirectQ engine and authored some of the "boosted" code in the most recent ProQuake updates (the dx8pro uses his OpenGL to Direct 3D 8.1 wrapper, WinQuake animation smoothing, overbright lighting, etc.)

Obviously, MH is like having at least 10 engine coders and he has joined the Remake Quake project to help them implement several ambitious features to have more features available for Quake map making.

The Death Lair is the latest single player release from Trinca. It is a rock-solid action oriented map. If you want 30 minutes of killing monsters and having 2 Hell Knights in front of you and a Fiend behind you, this is your map.

Some of Trinca's past works include: City of Angels, Tomb of Chak Toh Ich'ak, Freaky Base.

Evolutions ...

Quake Injector 2. Megaman and Spirit have released the Quake Injector 2 update, which automatically installs and plays Quake single player releases and works with any engine.

DirectQ 1.8.666 RC2. MH has released a new version of the Direct3D 9 engine DirectQ (site and download link). This engine not only can play humongous maps like Warpspasm, A Roman Wilderness of Pain and Soul of Evil Indian Summer -- but likewise is a truely capable client for playing on NetQuake servers.

Other stuff: Rook has a new Qrack beta out, version 2.010. ProQuake has undergone and continues to undergo several revisions and a new Remake Quake release is out. An upcoming news update within the next week will focus more on Remake Quake.

Doctor Who: Blink (Weeping Angels) Mod

Morkai, a self described Quake-addict (see 2005 QuakeExpo site), has made a mod based off the Doctor Who episode "Blink", which featured "Weeping Angels" which are statues that cannot move when observed (but also cannot be harmed!). This innovative mod and the optional skins are available plus QuakeC source.

This mod really alters the dynamics of the game play in single player, it must be tried to be accurately described but the short version is that you are in great danger of being shot in the back and multiple enemies create intense situations. Possibly a good basis for a total conversion mod.

Scribble[SFD] has a Steam group trying to revive Quakeworld CTF and supposedly has the real "Zoid" (creator of Capture The Flag) as a member. Then again Quake has seen many fake impersonators over the years so maybe it is, maybe it isn't. Either way, his efforts to revive Quakeworld CTF can be found here.

Quake Reforged Updates!

The most active and successful effort in recent years to give Quake single player a facelift and all types of awe and polish has yet more updates. Alfader and Nergal and unofficial occasional guest stars such as Seanstar (Conner?) share their works here in this thread.

Xonotic

The primarily game content developers behind Nexuiz have forked the project and named it as Xonotic. Xonotic home page. Interesting note: The Xonotic project head div0 compiled the original RQuake modified server engine for Linux, neither RocketGuy nor myself could get the obsolete makefiles to work back in '06.
