  • Between Two Flags: Interview with Visor (from Quake 3)

Hello everybody; welcome to the show. For this interview, I will speak to Visor. He has won two perfect medals, two gauntlet medals, an accuracy medal, an impressive medal, and an excellence medal. In addition, he and his teammates have won five trophies in Capture the Flag. Indeed, he is a mysterious, dangerous, and versatile gladiator in Quake 3 Arena. Please give a friendly welcome to Visor!

RL Clown: Thank you for showing up, Visor. I can’t wait to ask you many questions!
Visor: Go ahead. Let’s get this show on the road.

RL Clown: What is your favorite weapon?
Visor: It’s gotta be the rocket launcher. I don’t wanna diss the other weapons, but I have to reinforce my point… The grenade launcher is too slow; the shotgun is too wimpy. The BFG is rare and it eats up ammo too quickly. I have zero complaints about the rocket launcher.

RL Clown: Does it take a lot of strategy to win CTF?
Visor: I could laugh at your question, bro. Do birds have wings? Obviously, it takes a tremendous amount of strategy to win CTF. CTF is kinda like a Chess game, but you have to remember that there’s a clock. It takes strategy to run out the clock. Sometimes the clock is working against you; so you have to change your tactics in order to get some more captures. Here’s an interesting statistic… More frags lead to more captures. But then again, just because your offense is good doesn’t mean that your defense is good. Who knows? Maybe your enemy is just as fast as you are. Sometimes you might resort to camping as a defensive tactic. There are so many things to consider in CTF. CTF is hardcore.

RL Clown: I will read you a list of names. Please comment on these people briefly… Cadavre, Patriot, Anarki, Bitterman, and Stripe.
Visor: Cadavre: He’s a creepy guy; he talks about death a lot. But I respect him because of his toughness and because of his physical strength. Patriot: He’s a weird guy; he thinks that it’s 1776. But he is an amazing warrior. Anarki: I do not like his punk character, but I respect his speed. Bitterman: He keeps on looking at himself in the mirror. I think that he’s crazy. But I must say that he is good at aiming. Stripe: I am sick and tired of his gangsta talking, but he is courageous and hardcore.

RL Clown: Is Gorre your brother?
Visor: Yes, he is my younger brother. We have our friendly little sibling rivalries. I know his strengths and I know his weaknesses. Gorre shows off a lot, but he has a very big heart.

RL Clown: Did you ever take part in a LAN party?
Visor: Yes; I do it every Friday night. Good times. I do it just for fun. I have a good laugh with the boys.

RL Clown: The story of Quake 2 differed from the story of the original Quake. Do you think that this was a smart move for idsoftware?
Visor: Definitely! idsoftware played her cards wisely. If a software business is going to survive, it’s going to have to change its product from time to time. Consumers want change; they don’t want the same old boring story. Some people are gonna argue with me, but idsoftware generated many sales with Quake 2, Quake 4, and Quake Wars. idsoftware is rolling!

RL Clown: What are your favorite vacation destinations?
Visor: Canada, Italy, Netherlands, Germany, Saudi Arabia, China, South Korea, and Australia. Great places. I love diverse cultures!

RL Clown: Did you have a good time during the Holidays?
Visor: I had a great time during the Holidays! I got together with family members and friends. We danced, sang songs. We ate a lot of pizzas and drank a lot of wine. We even created Frosty the Snowman (well, kind of).

RL Clown: We are out of time. It was a pleasure to talk to you, Visor.
Visor: I was happy to answer your questions, RL Clown. See ya!
