  • Kind of a tech question about monsters

    I downloaded a few monsters to swap into Quake. One of them is half buried. Only the chest is above ground, the rest is below the floor/ground. How do I fix this? Thanks.

    You have to use those downloaded monster along with the "shovel" MOD!!! To... unbury them of course

    Seriously, I think we'll need a lil' more info than what you gave us.
    Name's damage_inc, and killing is my business. Don't worry though, it's nothing personal! Oh wait... maybe it is

      Open the model in blender, noesis or some other editor that recognizes the file and pull it upward til the bottom of the feet are a smidge higher than the part of the chest that touches the ground.

      There is another possibility though. Maybe the model is sloppy and there is some stray vertex way above his head somewhere, forcing the model center to be out of whack. If this is the case you need to go to Harbor Freight and get some 2 arm gear pullers. You can then attach them to the cradle and using an impact driver you should be able to unpress your ball joints. This method is superior to using a press because you don't have to fiddle with all the attachments.

        Is this something I'd be able to do with QuArk or qME? How would I do it if I can?

          Hello Bill,

          If you want to squeeze other models into your Quake, and are playing with original .mdl formats, you can use QME for it, yes.
          Please also see this post (maybe it helps you too).

          Here is a swift example of how you would raise a models position in QME.
          QME supports .mdl and .md2 format. For other formats either use a model editor which supports it, or convert it.

          These buttons/settings must be set as shown, otherwise it will not work:






          Be aware that the grid in QME does not necessarily represent the ground in Quake. As you see in the 1st screen, that position matches perfect into Quake. Raising the model to match the grid in QME does not necessarily mean, that it will match Quake´s ground. So you have to play with the values and test the results in game, until you have the 'perfect fit'.

          Be sure to save it out in the correct 'Quake´s .mdl' format.
