  • Model problem

    Hi there, i'm a knee-deep in SHIT. Found a very cool model of Player (Ruohish), all links dead (of course, on QuakeOne). But when I installed "OoPpEe-Moo-My-Key's" model, catch a error with changing the color of shirt and pants. Each time i try to make Ranger looks different (changing color) he stays the same (i mean armor yellow, pants orange, like in orig). Do I need to download separate skins for model or maybe fix some config line?
    Please, help. Playing coop with friends and being the same colors not so ruling

    both OoPpEe/M00's player-model and ruohis model dont have tintable pants & shirt

    i know darkplaces from reading on the website of the engine that it does support this,
    but i dont know how to add it

    .

    its something i always missed though too when playing online with ruohis model,
    its why i switched to an mdl female player model which does have tinted pants and shirt for playing online
    .

      so, my worst thoughts bout this models were right..do you know where i can get new skins for Ranger with different colors? I looked throught inside 3d forums and this too, but still can't find any good links...

        no i dont personally... but i dun play online often and thus never searched for that.


        perhaps any of the other members which does play online more often knows where to find something like that?

          hm...i've seen a Q3A ranger's model somewhere on forums. It suits him good, looks like real arena quakeguy, but no links despite.
          Also screens i've seen shown new model playable. Can i get it somewhere?
          feel so bad, Ruohish site is broken..

            the only other player-model i can think of is capnbubs improved model

            its an improved version of the original model with more polys added where it makes sense and redone UV-mapping so that there is no texture-stretching anywhere

            wouldnt have a clue though on wether or not it supports pants and shirt-tinting


            but perhaps you might like capnbubs' player-model

              strange things happened..seems like capnbubs' models can't replaces my - key's. I've deleted configs of new model in SMC and also model, downloaded by me. But...no effect. Model of player, except dog and grunt stands the same. Again, wtf? I'm surprised...

                you happen to have the vweps feature of the SMC enabled?

                if you have this feature of SMC enabled, it will ALWAYS use ruohis' model,
                since this feature requires this model cuz none of the other models availble include Vweps

                if you wanna use another model, disable the SMCs vweps option in the autoexec.
                to do this find the line set 3rd_person_visible_weapons and set it to 0
                .

                  yep, I missed this point. However, i'm still in need of new model or skin. Even if old visuals are changed, but do not loosing their animation and style, for me it's not useful. I'll try to search again.

                    Hello Priest777,

                    Ruohis came here and informed us, that he will draw back from Quake (hopefully not forever). A short time after, his website went down.

                    But he uploaded ALL of his work to Spirit“s quaddicted website !
                    The search function on this forum helps you to find things like this.


                    Regarding the player team colors:
                    You seem to use the Darkplaces engine. If you visit the DP homepage, you will see what you need to make the player changing its colors according to your Quake settings: click
                    Scroll down until you see instruction for: "Replacing skins"

                    Here is an interesting post with a link to these textures: click me softly

                    Now you are able and know what you need to make all existing player models/replacements change their team colors if you want.

                      ive read taht part about using player.mdl_0_pants and player.mdl_0_shirt on the DP website.
                      however im curious though how you would go about doing this for md3-models?

                      since md3 models dun work the same way as mdl models when it comes to textures


                      like for example... how would you do it for ruohis model?

                          Talisa, I've done a quick tut on how to export models from Blender to MD3 for Dark Places. I've included in there how to name the graphics files so that they all come across to NPherno with the right names.

                            thats not what i meant. i know how to export models from blender to md3 with multiple materials, and without having to go through a compiler.
                            ive done that with a bunch of the models i made for drake-mod too, split the items up into multiple parts which each use their own texture

                            thanx either way though, and im sure your tut will come in handy to someone else who doesnt know yet

                            i was asking how to be able to make use of DPs 'player_pants' and 'player_shirt' feature on an md3 player model,
                            which allows the shirt and pants of the model to get tinted by the coloring options of the player options

                              Hello,

                              The pants / shirt feature is not a "DP-only" feature.
                              Almost all replacement-supporting engines support it, like FTE, Qrack.

                              If you are handling .md3 files in DP, you have to use .skin files for this.
                              .skin files override the texture path inside the .md3 file.
                              If DP finds .skin files it will make use of it.

                              So, what you want to try is, create these files:
                              - player.mdl_0.skin
                              - player.mdl_0_pants.skin
                              - player.mdl_0_shirt.skin

                              If Ruohis“s .md3 player model uses only 1 texture (I am not sure at the moment, but I think it does), you will write the models mesh name and its texture-path into the player.mdl_0.skin file. I think you know how to do this.

                              Be sure to delete (black out) the color areas in the player models regular skin, like shown in the example here. As this area will be additive blended by the new pants and shirt texture.

                              Create the pants and shirt textures like shown in the linked example. Everything must be black, except the color area which must be greyscaled.

                              Enter the path to your new created pants and shirt textures into player.mdl_0_pants.skin and player.mdl_0_pants.skin accordingly.


                              It should work.
