  • Lit files for other custom made maps/mods?

I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find lit file packs for custom fan made maps and mods? Especially Zerstorer, beyond belief, Insomnia, Abyss of Pandemonium, and some of the older more popular user mad episodes/maps.

I found some for beyond belief, but they don't seem to do much. Like there are no colored red lights on the teleports/start map exit.

I did find a vid that had some nice lits in it but they are not the ones I found.

I tried using mhcolor to make some myself, but for the life of me, I can't get it to work.

I'm not a modder and have no quake editing knowledge btw.

    Thanks.

( I know I've been making a lot of threads lately, sorry. I just recently got back into quake after a few years.)

Yeah, I know about it. I mentioned in the op that I tried using it, but I just can't seem to get it to work. It won't load any of the pak or bsp files I try to put into it. I'm not sure why it doesn't want to work for me, but it just doesn't.

        Hello Legend,

There was a similar thread in the Help section a few month ago: click
NightFright is working on several map packs at the moment.

        About using the tool:
        - Start WinMHColour.exe
        - Browse to the folder that contains your maps
(Attention: It supports single maps as well as pak files)
        - For pak´s: Mark the pak file on the left and click on "add pak" on top of gui.
        - For maps: Mark the folder, where the maps are inside and click on "add folder" on top of gui.
        - select/deselect whatever you want
        - start the process with "Light BSP(s)"

Find the .lit files there afterwards.

        Best of luck.

Thanks. I understand how the program works. The issue is that it doesn't seem to load either pak or bsp files. I click the add button, but it doesn't actually add them. And the "light bsp" button is greyed out and I can't click it. Even if I try, it doesn't do anything.

                  Hello Legend,

What you want to be shared ?
MH´s software does it for all of you.

If you want to use MH´s software to create .lit files for Abyss of Pandemonium, or any other map, it takes just a few seconds per map, and you have the .lit file in the correct 'maps' folder on your hard disc in your Quake ...

The pros and cons of an automatic process compared to a hand-made process has been discussed already in detail. So we can skip this.

If you have issues in loading a .bsp map file in MH´s software, please read this post again and follow it step by step.
You will see, that the program has a slight bug in adding single maps, but this is considered in the above description. That is why I explained how to add .pak files and/or map-folders. In case of Abyss of Pandemonium you will need to add pak1.pak. It works.

Do this, if you want, for hundreds of maps. The result will always be the same, no matter who clicks the button...

                    @seven
Thaznks seven. But I already explained. The program is not working for me. I assume it's some sort of bug related to my system somehow. I understand how to use the program. I can honestly say that it's not a case of operator error.

The program does not add .pak or .bsp files when I click the add buttons. Every other button is greyed out and unclickable.

Otherwise, if it worked for me, I would be more than happy to generate my own.

small update. I managed to find an updated 2010 version of mhcolor on quaketastic that fixed the bug I was encountering with the version included in the 2009 lit file pack.

I gave it a try and it does indeed work now and makes some pretty nice colored lights. The ones I generated with it for beyond belief are better than the ones already available in my opinion too.

                      Thanks again guys.

Here's a link to the mhcolor update in case anyone wants it. I think golden boy had the same issue I had in the past.

That is a great find ! Thank you Legend.
I have the feeling that once i move on from XP to Win7 I will face the same issues. Then the 2010 version will be very handy.

                          Update from my side:
Since Legend was asking for it, I will see if I can upload what I have regarding .lit packs in the near future. I am using Fitzquake Mk V in the meantime, departing from the highend stuff involving Darkplaces, but the files should work for both ports, anyway.
