  • In search of ents, but not the mossy kind...

I'm attempting to make maps again after a near 20-year break. I'm a little rusty, to say the least. Fortunately the community is still alive and quite a few tools survive and some are even actively maintained. Enough that I could light and texture a few brushes and run around inside. What I am missing are entity definitions, specifically for Team Fortress and Mega TF. I can extract them from existing maps, but I don't know all of their properties or the full range of their values. Perhaps one of you might have this information tucked away in somewhere? Thanks.

    ETA:

Valve still publishes TFC fgd files for Worldcraft. It seems that TFC mostly uses the same ent flags and properties that TF did. It's not a perfect solution, but it's better than trial and error from a disjointed list of entities pulled from old maps. I'm still looking for teh Quake TF and MTF ent defs if anyone has them. I'll like the fgd at the bottom in case anyone else is also looking for them.

I've seen things you people would probably believe. Machariels on fire off of Serpentis Prime. I watched tachyon beams glitter in the dark near the Tannolen gate. All of those moments will be lost in time... Like Drakes in the outer ring... Time to fly

The spawnfunction names are contained in the teamfortress source (I downloaded version 2.5 from moddb) in tfortmap.qc.

Unfortunately the code is badly written and thus contains no QUAKED tags, which would usually hold the entity definitions. So you've still got to guess.

Yes, I was looking at the 2.5 source but the fgd from Valve was more helpful. I'm going to see what I can pull out of the TF progs.dat. Between those three sources maybe I can piece together a comprehensive list.

What a coincidence. I was just starting a Team Fortress project myself. If you find any useful information, feel free to post it in the thread, and vice versa.

Hey you, with the face... TF Classic.fgd

Edit: Oh woops, I misread the OP. However, making this an ent is not a big deal. If the above link is what you want "ented" and you don't know how... gimme 10 bucks and I'll have it for you by the end of the day.

Actually, I'll make any fgd an ent for 10 bucks a pop. That's basically only 10 bucks an hour. It's cheap cause I can't promise it will be 100% correct as I don't have a wsy to test it BUT I can promise it will be a perfect syntactical port of fgd to ent so, as long as the fgd has no errors my ent wont either.

If all you have is foreign money, I'll take that too but you have to mail it to me cause I want the actual foreign bills and am not concerned with their value.

I paid a guy once in around 400 yuan. That sounds like a lot but it was only 50 bucks.

Converting the FGD to .ent isn't the issue. I've done most of that already. What I am trying to sort out is how much of that is exclusive to TFC, how many (if nay) ents or flags were not included in TFC that are present in TF2.5? What new flags and ents are present in MTF?

Oh, I see what you mean. You're on your own buddy, lol. None of that sounds even a little bit like fun. I do wish you luck though.

What golden boy said earlier actually seems promising. It might not have quakeed labels but it shouldn't be too hard to figure out if a field/flag belongs in the ent. Still a whole lot of work though. Maybe you could contact the developers directly and simply ask for what you want. I've done that before and was surprised by the results.

im not 100% sure but bsp the modern gui map editor has predefined ents for some mods. tf might be one of them if i look i might be able to add them to the bsp ini if it doesnt have them already defined

either way i can check it out and see what i can dig up

                edit:

make your map with whatever, use BSP to drop in your ents.
or place ents, then edit your.map and change classnames...

                get BSP here http://www.bspquakeeditor.com/

Last time I checked, bspqe doesn't like to run on Widows 7, and there doesn't seem to be a Linux release either. I don't know, maybe it just hates my computer. I can always try it on my Win2k machine.

Works just fine in linux using Wine. You just saved me a ton of work, R00k. I'm going to make a small shrine to you in my next map.

                        Hey guys,

Awesome to hear that there is revived interest in QWTF. Here's the FGD: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fd23hht6ux...f-fgd.zip?dl=0

If you haven't seen it, TrenchBroom looks awesome and works on linux: TrenchBroom

Finally I'm working to debug and modernise qwtf. Check out our project at Classic Fortress - Home

Good luck, keep us updated to your progress.
